Ninja Chop!! (X360)
Developer: ZeroZeroZero (Z3)

Can she come break our milk bottles?

Story: Excellent

One probably imagines that ninja get their training by running hardcore marathons, enduring extreme temperatures, mastering multiple types of weapons, and the sort. The ninja girl who's at the center of this game, however, is concerned only with using her mighty karate chop against helpless bottles of milk. What follows is utterly ridiculous and funny as hell, and it's crazy to think that nobody else has done this before.

Gameplay: Excellent

Underneath all the silliness, ZeroZeroZero's Ninja Chop!! is merely a pendulum-reflex action minigame, and you just try to stop a moving cursor at a specific point as it swings back and forth along a bar. The closer the cursor is to the mark, the more points our heroine earns when she strikes the milk bottles, and these points yield new clothing and decorative accessories for the lovely kunoichi to wear. Of course, there's also the effect where the bottles splash their wet, white contents all over her upper body as she beats away at them, so think what you will of the game's humor. XD

The bukkake innuendo and cosplay fetishism aside, Ninja Chop!! works great as a minigame, because it's so tightly focused and so easy to play. The bottle-chopping action flows quickly without any annoying nonsense getting in the way, but it's punctuated by optional special chopping challenges that add variety and slightly more difficulty to the otherwise relaxed game. The costume rewards are paced well, encouraging you to help the heroine keep chopping apart milk bottles until she reaches the 100th level of points, upon which the final accessory is granted.

Controls: Above Average

The controls are simple and friendly. You can move the camera all around to get almost any view of the heroine, and you can interrupt the chopping action whenever desired to customize her costume (and clean away any spilled milk). The option to tackle the special challenges again at will is nice, although an option to freely enter the perverted gravure mode also should've been provided.

Graphics: Excellent

Absurdly huge bosoms or not, the heroine is rendered in a pleasant cel-shaded style, and her articles of clothing can be mixed and matched. The way that her private garden changes in appearance to reflect the different seasons is a nice touch, too.

Audio: Excellent

The bottles get knocked over and splatter their fluids with heavy thuds and sloppy splatters. The heroine herself has a cute voice, and the background music is energetic without being irritating.

Overall: Excellent

Ninja Chop!! is an awesome minigame that knows how to concentrate on its pendulum-reflex challenges, while it also creatively disguises its humor. Those looking for some simple action with an attractive kunoichi can't go wrong with its perfect pacing, amusing visuals, and colorful audio effects.

Expansion: Excellent

Ninja Chop!! has been updated to include an alternate visual environment, where the heroine now chops zombie heads in a bloody surgery room instead of milk bottles in her quiet garden. The environments can be switched at any time, because the rest of the game remains the same, right down to the costumes and the special challenges. (The white milk effects are merely color-swapped into red blood effects.) Even though the alternate environment comes with a new rock tune, the generic zombie look lacks the cleverness of the original aesthetics. Still, the additional material is a free bonus, so who's to complain?
