Hello Rocket (X360) (2011)
Developer: Software by Eugene
Review by Faididi and Co.
The best (mini) game ever
Story: Average
A stubby little rocket needs to land on target pads, because that's apparently what stubby little rockets do.
Gameplay: Excellent
Software by Eugene's Hello Rocket is an amusing obstacle course-style game that combines simple physics-based thrills with ultra-adorable character designs. Across 72 bite-sized levels, our stubby rocket hero has the goal of flying itself onto a bright red target pad that's located somewhere on the screen, avoiding any mines and other hazards in the way. For the high score-minded, more points can be earned by taking shorter paths or by going out of the way to grab the shiny bonus stars. The concepts are simple, but the game is pieced together so smoothly and neatly that there's no room for complaint.
Controls: Excellent
The stubby rocket handles really, really well. The clean, intuitive controls are a snap to pick up.
Graphics: Excellent
Hello Rocket has awesome graphics of the cute, cuddly kind, with round edges and colorful palettes. The implied association with a certain Sanrio character is certainly fitting in this regard.
Audio: Average
The audio effects are mostly limited to the soft poofs of the frowny block monsters going kabooms whenever the stubby rocket nudges them over a ledge. The title music is a good match for the game, although there is only one tune that plays during all the levels.
Overall: Excellent
Hello Rocket is a perfect example of a simple arcade-style game that's fun for the whole family. The flawless controls make propelling and steering the stubby rocket toward its goal a joy, and the cute, plushy visuals can't be more appealing.
