special attacks are very powerful, but they also cost a lot of Stamina.
Lord Castaneda's special attack is his charming attack.

Special Action Button (R1) - Perform the character's special action.
Rusty's is blocking, Mary's is shifting into her enhanced form, Abbey's
is reloading, and Lord Castaneda's is casting an energy wave.

Roll Button (X) - Roll. A character can't be hit while rolling.

[1.5] Weapons
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Weapon: Long Sword
Attack: 450
Knockdown: 0
Critical: 0
Notes:
Rusty's first weapon. The Long Sword is a sturdy and reliable tool.

Weapon: Knight's Sword
Attack: 1200
Knockdown: 50
Critical: 25
Notes:
Rusty's second weapon, earned by rescuing Charles, Diana, and Henry.
The Knight's Sword lets Rusty kill anything with just a few hits.

Weapon: Knuckles
Attack: 200
Knockdown: 0
Critical: 0
Notes:
Mary's first weapon. The Knuckles are a lot more effective when Mary shifts
 into her enhanced form.

Weapon: Great Fists
Attack: 450
Knockdown: 50
Critical: 25
Notes:
Mary's second weapon, earned by rescuing Wanda. The Great Fists can deal
even more damage when Mary shifts into her enhanced form.

Weapon: New ISLA
Attack: 600
Knockdown: 0
Critical: 0
Notes:
Abbey's first weapon. The New ISLA is a revolver designed and manufactured
by ISLA. Its cylinder has a capacity of six rounds.

Weapon: Trickster
Attack: 900
Knockdown: 0
Critical: 50
Notes:
Abbey's second weapon, earned by rescuing LeBron and Selene. Although its
cylinder also has a capacity of six rounds, it normally consumes two rounds
per shot, for some weird-ass reason. Even stranger, if Abbey performs a
special attack with this weapon, it will consume only one round.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
[1.6] Ores
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Smith, the blacksmith, can enhance weapons by using the ores that the heroes
collect. Crates and barrels hold ores, and enemies sometimes drop them when
they are defeated (except in Hard Mode). Some civilians will also reward the
heroes with precious ores or diamonds when they are successfully rescued.

Iron Ore - Increases attack power by 2 points.

Copper Ore - Increases attack power by 6 points.

Silver Ore - Increases critical hit percentage by 5 points.

Gold Ore - Increases knockdown power by 15 points.

Diamond - Increases attack power by 30 points and critical hit percentage
 by 5 points.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
[1.7] Herbs and Medicines
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Yohan, the pharmacist, can create items that restore Life and Stamina by
mixing the herbs that the heroes collect. Some civilians will also reward
the heroes with such items when they are successfully rescued.

Red Herb (Alraune) - An ingredient in Life-restoring medicine.
Eaten raw, this restores Life by 10 percent.

Blue Herb (Mandrake) - An ingredient in Stamina-restoring medicine.
Eaten raw, this restores Stamina by 10 percent.

Green Herb (Mandarake) - Used for boosting the properties of other herbs.
Eaten raw, this restores Life by 5 percent and Stamina by 5 percent.

Life Tonic - Created from 2 red herbs and 1 green herb.
 Increases the Life capacity.

Life Potion - Created from 2 red herbs.
 Restores Life completely.

Life Pill - Created from 1 red herb and 1 green herb.
 Restores Life by 50 percent.

Life Powder - Created from 1 red herb.
 Restores Life by 25 percent.

Stamina Tonic - Created from 2 blue herbs and 1 green herb.
 Increases the Stamina capacity.

Stamina Pill - Created from 1 blue herb and 1 green herb.
 Restores Stamina by 50 percent.

Stamina Powder - Created from 1 blue herb.
 Restores Stamina by 25 percent.

Nectar - Created from 1 red herb, 1 blue herb, and 1 green herb.
 Restores Life and Stamina completely.

==============================================================================
[2] Strategies - ISLA Side (Standard Mode)
==============================================================================

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
[2.0] General Tips
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

 - Rusty can guard against almost all enemy attacks with his blocking move.

 - Mary can shift into her enhanced form to boost her weapon's attack power,
to increase her speed, and to lengthen her combo (by adding two roundhouse
kicks after the three usual punches).

 - If Abbey doesn't have time to reload but really needs to fire again, he can
switch guns. Of course, the other gun will have to be reloaded beforehand.

 - Lord Castaneda grows stronger every time he sucks someone's blood, be it
 a hero's, a civilian's, or a guard's.

 - Don't leave civilians behind in a different area where enemies are present,
or else they will eventually be attacked. If they are left behind in an area
with Lord Castaneda, they will get bitten.

 - If the heroes or any following civilians get bitten, they should quickly
return to the sanctuary, so Father Gin can purify them.

 - The higher the Difficulty Setting, the fewer herbs there are. Taking an
herb will also increase the Alert Level a bit.

 - Break open crates and barrels to find ores. Taking ores will not increase
the Alert Level. Also consider saving up the ores for the second weapons,
which have much higher sets of base stats.

 - Rescue civilians in related groups to earn greater rewards. For example,
rescuing an entire family at once may earn the heroes a new weapon or a
tonic instead of a mere herb.

 - Charging attacks are very effective at knocking civilians back to their
senses after they have been charmed by Lord Castaneda and at separating
groups of civilians and enemies who are mixed together. Charging attacks
do relatively little damage, so the civilians won't be in danger of being
killed. This is especially important in Hard Mode, where friendly fire from
the heroes can deal full damage to civilians.

 - Walk to sneak past headless enemies who are not alerted.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
[2.1] Part 1 - From the Arrival to the Rescuing of Abbey
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Beginning - Welcome to Inzelburg, Belgard (Population: Soon to Be Zero):

Upon arriving at the town, explore the place and speak with the various
civilians. Start with the woman living in the house to which Thomas
(Karl's servant) points. Be sure to meet with Mother Holly near the
bell tower at the northeast, Muir and Hilda at the east alleyway,
Nicholas and Teresa at the northwest alleyway, Karl at the west alleyway,
and Smith at the southwest alleyway.

Sanctuary - Rescuing Yohan and Killing Suleiman:

Eventually, when the heroes return to the central courtyard, they will
see Santino (the man in the ivory suit and hat) speaking with his guards
before leaving, and there will be someone screaming. As the heroes make
their way to the sanctuary, Suleiman, one of the two men bitten by a
vampire, will turn into a vampire himself. Waste him, and then watch
Father Gin purify Yohan (the other guy who has been bitten). The heroes
can talk to Father Gin to record their progress.

Woods - Rescuing Nathan, Yakov, and Melissa:

Yohan, the pharmacist, wants the heroes to go rescue Melissa, who is in
the woods. Outside the sanctuary, take the north path to get there. Keep
heading north, to the outer woods, to find Melissa. Along the way, also
rescue Nathan (the skinny dude) and Yakov (the big guy who starts off
fighting some enemies). If the heroes are fast enough, Lord Castaneda
won't show up until Melissa joins up. If the heroes take too long, Melissa,
as well as the two men mentioned, may become bitten. Bring them back to the
sanctuary alive to successfully rescue them.

Later, when the heroes can afford to do so, they should return to the woods
and follow the river upstream to the west to find Sophia. Save her from the
wolves attacking her, and bring her back to the sanctuary, too.

Catacombs - Rescuing Sister Wendy, Ken, Linda, Conan, and Julia:

With Melissa saved, when the heroes exit the sanctuary again, they will meet
Sister Casey, who has come to tell them about the nearby catacombs. Go west
to reach it, and speak to the guard there to get him out of the way. Inside
the catacombs, speak to Sister Wendy and have her join up. To avoid raising
the Alert Level, be sure to walk, not run, across the loose tiles. (If
Sister Wendy does not appear now, try coming back later to find her.)

Ken's family has been scattered throughout these catacombs, so it's up to
the heroes to help save them. Ken himself is lying at the eastern dead end
on B1. Ignore him for now, because he is mad over being separated from his
family. Go down to B2 to find Linda (the mother). Talk to her and have her
join up. Conan (the son) is in another room on the same floor. After he
joins up, the heroes can pick him up, so the whole party can move more
quickly. Julia (the daughter) is stuck on a pillar on B3. To reach her,
find and pull the two levers to raise the walkways leading to her pillar.
With Linda, Conan, Julia, and Sister Wendy following, return to Ken on B1,
so he will join up, too. (By this time, the Alert Level may be dangerously
high, so prepare to kick Lord Castaneda's ass when he appears.) Bring
everybody back to the sanctuary. When the heroes do so, Sister Wendy
will run off to the woods on her own to help the woodsman.

Woods - Rescuing Sister Wendy and Nelhach:

Sister Wendy (providing she is still alive) will now be waiting at the
entrance to the woods. Bring her to the shack in the middle of the woods.
If the heroes are fast enough, Nelhach, the woodsman, will come out from
his shack and join up. He has been bitten, so bring him, along with Sister
Wendy, back to the sanctuary quickly. If the heroes take too long, Nelhach
will turn into a vampire and try to kill Sister Wendy. In this case,
waste him, and bring the young nun back to the sanctuary.

Afterward, if the heroes haven't already, they should return to the woods
and follow the river upstream to the west to find Sophia. Save her from the
wolves attacking her, and bring her back to the sanctuary, too.

Castle Basement - Finding the Secret Passageway:

For now, the town is safe, and there is no one else in the catacombs or the
woods who needs to be rescued. However, there are still lots of people whom
the heroes can save, only the developer has decided to make things tough by
putting in a secret passageway. Here is a hint: If some big-shot lord has
a lot of enemies, to where would he build a hidden path from his castle?

The answer is a church or sanctuary of some kind. Rusty should inspect
the wall at the end of the hallway in the sanctuary. He will hear some
guy calling out from the other side, and then he will bust down the wall
and make like a dumbass as he falls right into the secret passageway.
The dude calling out is Frederick, and he mentions that he has previously
been with a person whose description matches that of Abbey.

Castle Basement - Rescuing Abbey and Monica:

Follow the secret passageway through the dock to reach the castle basement.
There are four cells, a storage room, and a drawbridge control room here.
All the cells except Abbey's is locked, and it is the southwest one. If the
heroes reach Abbey fast enough, they will find that he has been bitten, but
he still has time to be purified by Father Gin. If the heroes take too long,
he will turn into a vampire as soon as the party leaves the cell. Either
way, a little girl, Monica, will join up, so bring her back to the sanctuary.
Before leaving the basement, the heroes will also want to flip the lever
in the drawbridge control room, so they can access the castle above ground.

Castle - Rescuing Claude and Kate (and Harry):

Because the heroes have flipped the lever back in the castle basement,
the drawbridge to the castle is now lowered. Right outside the sanctuary,
take the path marked by the symbol of the Castaneda family to reach the
castle. There, the heroes will see Claude fleeing from some monsters.
Save him, have him join up, and then get into the castle. Go to the
dining room (the one with the long table and a scenery painting on
the wall) at the north side of 1F to find Kate. Save her, too, and
have her join up. Now bring the two back to the sanctuary.

Abbey should come back to the castle to find Harry, the little boy who
is waiting on 2F, before the stairs leading up to Lord Castaneda's sanctum.
Because Monica has been rescued, he will join up and give Abbey the stake
 that he has been carrying.

The heroes will also want to obtain the cell key that is found in the
northeast room on 1F, so they can open the cells in the castle basement.
(Any ISLA agent can grab this key.)

Castle Basement - Rescuing Sophia (again), Teresa, and Audrey:

Now that the heroes have the cell key (taken from the northeast room on the
castle 1F), they should go back to the castle basement and open the other
three cells to find Teresa, Audrey, and Sophia (who got into trouble again
after the escapade at the woods). If the heroes take too long to do this,
Audrey (in the northeast cell) will turn into a vampire. Lord Castaneda will
also show up after Sophia (in the northwest cell) joins up. Kick his ass, or
prepare to rush back to the sanctuary to get some much-needed purification.
Successfully rescuing Sophia again will also earn the heroes her hair clip.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
[2.2] Part 2 - From the Lockout Order to the Obtaining of the Red Scope
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Sanctuary - Town Lockout (We Have Some 8 Hours Left to Live):

After finding Abbey and rescuing Claude, Kate, Harry, and hopefully the
three ladies in the castle basement cells, return to Father Gin. Mario,
a fisherman, will come to the sanctuary to tell the heroes some bad news.
Santino has ordered his guards to kill any civilians and ISLA agents
(along with the usual monsters) on sight. If Rusty and Mary haven't found
Abbey yet, Santino will still give this order when there is eight and a
half hours (8:30) left in the night (as marked by the vertical alignment
of the two stars closer to the moon on the Subscreen's timer).

At this point, the civilians who have been in the town will be scattered
all over the place. Each area contains a different set of people to rescue.
Generally, if the heroes see someone, they will want to help him or her
out before moving on to another area. Leaving civilians behind for too
long after seeing them may result in them getting bitten.

The next few parts can be done in any order. The order by which they
are listed here is just a suggestion. However the heroes do it, though,
they must ultimately find a way for all the townsfolk they have rescued
to escape the entire area before the night ends (when the timer hits 0:00),
or else everyone will die from the bombardment. (For more details on how
to escape, see the end of this walkthrough, in the sections that cover
the rescuing of Louie and the finding of the wheel.)

Woods - Rescuing Thomas, Noah, Guy, Roy, and Nicholas:

Thomas (Karl's servant) has been stranded on a small island near the
waterfall, at the west part of the woods. To save him, first inspect
the tree closest to the island where he is. Next, go to the back of
Nelhach's shack in the middle of the woods, and take the axe lying
there. Then, return to the tree inspected earlier, and chop it down
with the axe. Talk to Thomas, and he will join up.

Noah, one of the Sophia groupies, is hiding behind Nelhach's shack.
The fat bastard won't move unless the heroes have Sophia's hair clip,
which they should have received when they rescued her from the castle
basement. Talk to Noah with the hair clip to have him join up.

Guy and Roy, the other two Sophia groupies, will only join Mary. These
two can be found farther north from the shack, at the outer woods (the
same place where Melissa has been found earlier).

Nicholas is at the dead end at the extreme north side of the woods,
in the mountainous area. Talk to him and have him join up.

Bring all these people back to the sanctuary to save their sorry asses.

Castle - Rescuing Emily, Emma, Misery, Muir, and Hilda (and Harry):

The drawbridge to the castle will always be lowered after Santino orders
the lockout, regardless of whether the heroes have flipped the lever
in the castle basement or not. If the heroes cross the bridge now, they
will see Misery, who has been bitten, taking baby Emma into the castle.
Talk to Emily, and then charge into the castle. Misery will be hiding in
the east room on 2F. If the heroes are fast enough, she won't turn into a
vampire yet, but she will still attack the heroes. Knock her down with a
charging attack, pick up Emma, and then talk to Misery again. Now that she
is back to her senses, she will join up. Because Misery is close to turning
into a vampire, the heroes should head back immediately without rescuing
anyone else except Emily, who is now hiding among the trees west of the
castle entrance. Give Emma back to her, and then bring all of them back
to the sanctuary. If the heroes take too long to reach Misery, she will
turn into a vampire and must be killed.

After helping Emily, Emma, and Misery, get back into the castle. This time,
go to the northwest room on 1F. The heroes will find Muir and Hilda being
attacked by three guards. Take out the guards, and then talk to the couple
to have them join up. Bring them back to the sanctuary.

Abbey, if he hasn't by now, should come back to the castle once more to
find Harry, the little boy who is waiting on 2F, before the stairs leading
up to Lord Castaneda's sanctum. Because Monica has been rescued, he will
join up and give Abbey the stake that he has been carrying.

If the heroes haven't done so already, they will want to obtain the cell key
that is found in the northeast room on 1F, so they can open the cells in the
castle basement. (Any ISLA agent can grab this key.) Richard can be found
in this room now, but he will refuse to join up until almost all the other
civilians have been rescued (or killed).

Castle Basement - Rescuing Charles, Diana, and Henry:

Charles (the father) is inside the storage room. Talk to him and have him
join up. Henry (the son) is inside the drawbridge control room. Even if the
heroes talk to him, he won't join up yet. Bring Charles back out to the dock
where Diana (the mother) is waiting, and have her join up. Now return to
Henry with both Charles and Diana, and the little snot will join up. Bring
all three back to the sanctuary. Successfully saving Charles, Diana, and
Henry will also earn the heroes Rusty's second weapon, the Knight's Sword.

If the heroes haven't done so by now, they should also rescue Teresa, Audrey,
and Sophia, the three ladies who are trapped within the locked cells. (The
heroes will need the cell key from the northeast room on the castle 1F.)

Town - Rescuing LeBron, Selene, Smith, Ryan, and Ignatio:

When the heroes take the road leading to the town, they will meet LeBron,
the taverner. He will join up and ask the heroes to help him save his
pianist. The front gate of the town is barred, so kill the guards there,
and then follow the narrow side path around the town walls. The junk that
has been previously kept there is now removed, revealing a hole. Step
through it to enter the town, near where Smith's home is.

With LeBron in tow, knock on the large double doors of the tavern (across
from the central fountain). Selene, the pianist, will step out and join up.
Be sure to protect her and LeBron from any guards who approach.

Smith, whose dislike for the guards has never been very subtle, has been
taken to the southeast alleyway to be beaten. Go there and save him from
the guards. His Life will be very low, so ask him to wait to let him
 recover for a while.

Ryan is in the northwest alleyway, fighting off some guards. He will join
up if the heroes have rescued Audrey. Otherwise, he won't join up until
there is only one hour (1:00) left in the night.

Ignatio, the son of Muir and Hilda, can be found in the east alleyway.
Though not much of a man himself, he will refuse to join Mary, so Rusty
or Abbey should talk to him to have him join up.

Bring all these people back to the sanctuary. Successfully saving LeBron
and Selene will also earn the heroes Abbey's second weapon, the Trickster.

If the heroes have the stake, they should also visit Mother Holly in the
northeast alleyway, who will give the heroes the catacombs key. (Harry,
the boy on the castle 2F, carries the stake. To obtain it, either have
Abbey talk to him or, if necessary, kill him, preferably by pushing him
 into the guillotines.)

Catacombs - Rescuing Natalie, Yuan, Wanda, and Karl:

Wanda is wandering around on the catacombs B3 (the lowest floor). Have her
join up, and then get the hell out of the place. Successfully saving Wanda
will also earn the heroes Mary's second weapon, the Great Fists.

Natalie, the widow of Suleiman, can be found in the west room on the
catacombs B1, but don't bother going to her without the catacombs key.
If the heroes do have it, then they should talk to her. Immediately after
doing so, head for the room just before the monolith room, on the north
side of B1. (The heroes need the catacombs key to open the locked door
in the way.) The heroes will find that Natalie's baby son, Yuan, has
been bitten. Kill the two guards in the same room, and bring Yuan back
to her. Now lead what is left of Suleiman's family back to the sanctuary,
before the baby turns into a vampire spider.

Karl is in the hallway just on the other side of the locked door (on B1)
that can be opened with the catacombs key (received from Mother Holly).
Bring him back to the sanctuary after he joins up. Successfully saving
Karl will also earn the heroes the red scope.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
[2.3] Part 3 - From Finding the Lens to Defeating Lord Castaneda
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Town - Finding the Lens:

Karl has given the heroes the red scope, but he tells them that he has
dropped its lens back at the town when he was fleeing. Return to the
town, and search the part of the central courtyard that is closer to
the front gate. The lens shouldn't be that difficult to find, because
 it is very shiny.

Catacombs - Reading the Monolith:

The heroes have put the lens back on the red scope, so they can now read
the inscriptions on the monolith at the far north side of the catacombs B1.
According to the inscriptions, the heroes will need five items in addition
to the stake if they want to defeat Lord Castaneda.

Town - Talking to Mother Holly

After reading the monolith's inscriptions, return to Mother Holly at the
town. Talk to her to learn that Santino has also gone to check out the
 monolith.

Catacombs - Rescuing Santino (and Mother Holly):

Return to the monolith room in the catacombs. Santino is there, but he
will be attacked by his guards-turned-vampires. Slay the monsters, and
then make like the better man and let Santino join up. Bring him back
out of the catacombs, and he will give the heroes one of the items needed
to defeat Lord Castaneda. He will then run off on his own. He will be fine,
 so don't worry about him.

If the heroes enter and then exit the sanctuary now, Mother Holly will
appear right outside the building. Lead her into the sanctuary for an
 easy rescue.

Sanctuary - Obtaining the Orbs (and Rescuing Zliel):

The heroes have read the inscriptions on the monolith by now, so return to
the sanctuary and talk to Karl. He will give the heroes more information
about the five items they need (in addition to the stake) if they want to
defeat Lord Castaneda. To keep things simple here, we're just gonna refer
to these five items as orbs. The orbs can be obtained mostly by talking to
the people who have been rescued.

Blue Orb - Given by Santino. The heroes can find him in the monolith room
in the catacombs after they have read the inscriptions and then talked to
Mother Holly again. He will hand over the orb when the heroes bring him back
 outside the catacombs.

Red Orb - Given by Wanda (Karl's wife). If the heroes haven't rescued her by
now, they should be able to find her in the catacombs B3 (the lowest level).

Yellow Orb - Given by Emma or Diana. If Diana has not been rescued, search
Emma to find this orb. If Diana has been rescued, go save Richard (in the
northeast room of the castle 1F, after almost all the other civilians have
been saved or killed). Talk to Richard at the sanctuary, and then speak
with Diana (who is holding Emma) to receive this orb.

Gold Orb - Given by Nicholas and Teresa. Talk to Muir, Hilda, Teresa, and
 then Nicholas.

Green Orb - Given by Zliel, the watchman. After obtaining the other four
orbs, Karl will tell the heroes to go get Zliel. Knock on the bell tower's
door at the town to have him join up, and then bring him back to the
 sanctuary to secure the orb.

Dock - Rescuing Louie:

Rusty should go to the dock (via the secret passageway), so he will notice
something about the ship there. Now return to the sanctuary and talk to
Mario, who will then go check out the boat himself and bring back his
younger brother, Louie. The Mario brothers will then tell the heroes
that the boat is missing its navigation wheel.

Castle - Finding the Wheel:

The ship's wheel can be found in the central room on the castle 2F. Try
taking the wheel to discover that doing so triggers a weight mechanism that
will lock shut the only door out of the room. Put the wheel back to unlock
the door again. Now, go to the storage room in the castle basement to find
Lord Castaneda's portrait. Bring this portrait back to the room with the
wheel. Take the wheel, and then place Lord Castaneda's portrait on the hooks
to unlock the door, so the wheel can be brought back to the Mario brothers
at the sanctuary. (If the heroes try to use the scenery painting found on
the castle 1F, it won't work, because it is too light and won't completely
 unlock the door.)

Dock - Killing Lord Castaneda:

The heroes have brought the wheel back to the sanctuary, so now they
and the civilians who have been rescued can escape before the entire
place gets bombarded at dawn. To leave, talk to Father Gin, and then
choose the option to depart (it is the new option on the menu). However,
when the Mario brothers try to install the wheel, they will be thwarted
 by Lord Castaneda.

This is the final showdown, so use up all the remaining ores and tonics,
stock up on medicine, and then go to the dock to face the boss vampire.

The heroes should be pretty familiar with Lord Castaneda by now. He still
has his dust-sweeping attack, his energy wave attack, and his close-range
bitch-slapping attack. The heroes don't have to worry about his charming
attack anymore, but he will now be using his very fast charging attack
and an enemy-summoning ability. Lock on to him and hit him whenever there
is a chance. Don't forget to use special attacks, and don't be shy about
using Stamina-restoring medicine. If Lord Castaneda summons other enemies,
kill them all to make him appear again.

 Here are some character-specific tips:

Rusty can block Lord Castaneda's charging attack and then immediately
 counter with a special attack.

Mary, in her enhanced form, should run up to Lord Castaneda whenever he
pauses after making an evading jump, and then hit him with a special attack.

Abbey should use special attacks to knock down Lord Castaneda, reloading
and preparing to fire again while Lord Castaneda is getting back up.

Dock - Killing the Real Lord Castaneda:

If Vampire Side has been finished, if Abbey has been successfully rescued,
and if all five orbs and the stake have been obtained, then the heroes can
go through this additional scene, where they will have the chance to kill
the true Lord Castaneda. (The current character can be switched. The default
choice is the character for the previous battle.)

The real Lord Castaneda has a different set of attacks. The first attack
is unleashing multiple ice balls, which can home in on and freeze the heroes
for several moments. Dodge the ice balls by running around to the sides.
The second attack is firing twin deathrays, which will sweep out over a
great distance in front of Lord Castaneda. Counter this attack by hitting
Lord Castaneda while he is charging up or by moving to his side when he
fires. Rolling away from the deathrays isn't a bad idea, but don't bother
rolling away from the ice balls, because the ice balls will catch up
 very quickly.

 Here are some character-specific tips:

Rusty can't block the ice balls, so he should just run away from them.
Go close to Lord Castaneda while he is charging up his twin deathrays,
and whack him with a special attack.

Mary should rely on her speed again. Run up to Lord Castaneda whenever he
pauses to make an attack, and then hit him with a special attack.

Abbey should keep hitting Lord Castaneda with special attacks, using
 Stamina-restoring items as necessary.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
[2.4] Ranking
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The rank depends on how many civilians have been rescued, how long the
heroes have taken to defeat Lord Castaneda, and possibly how many times
they have saved their progress. Keep in mind that Santino should be
considered successfully rescued after the heroes help him leave the
catacombs, even though his status will be listed as "unknown" until
the very end of the game.

Meeting the following conditions will definitely secure Rank A:

 - Rescue all 47 civilians and Abbey. (Suleiman always dies.)
 - Defeat the true Lord Castaneda.
 - Finish the game with at least seven hours (7:00) left in the night.
 - Save 10 times or less.

[3] Strategies - Vampire Side (Secret Mode)
==============================================================================

To access Vampire Side, finish ISLA Side on any Difficulty Setting.

Vampire Side flips around the whole game by putting "Lord Castaneda" as
the protagonist and the ISLA agents as the antagonists. The gameplay in
this Mode parallels that in ISLA Side, but there are some major differences.

First, Lord Castaneda can't really die from running out of Life. If he
gets his ass kicked, he will just lose an hour, so he can regenerate his
undead ass back together for another outing. However, running out of time
without defeating all three ISLA agents will result in a big fat Game Over.

Second, Lord Castaneda's stats must be increased by sucking the blood of
civilians (including babies) and the ISLA agents. As he sucks more and more
blood, his Life and Stamina capacities will increase, his offensive strengths
(attack power, knockdown power, and so on) will rise, and he will upgrade
from his ragged, hopping-corpse form to his eight-foot-tall, man-pretty form.
He can use his charging attack and his energy wave attack only when he is in
 his man-pretty form.

Third, there is the teleporting ability. The command menu lists the areas
to where Lord Castaneda can warp. He can't approach or enter Father Gin's
sanctuary, so teleporting is the only way for him to reach many of the areas.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
[3.0] General Tips
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

 - Before Lord Castaneda can bite people, he first has to incapacitate them
with a charming attack. If they aren't bitten and fall back down, charmed
people will proceed to attack other nearby characters. If no one else is
present, charmed people will simply stand around until they regain their
senses or until Lord Castaneda charms them again.

 - The ISLA agents don't restore their Life, and any characters who are
 bitten will not be purified.

 - Only the blood of civilians and ISLA agents will grant Lord Castaneda
increases in his Life and Stamina capacities and in his offensive strengths.
The blood of guards will only restore a small amount of Life and Stamina.

 - The civilians are often located at or near where they can be found in
ISLA Side. Some civilians will not appear until certain events occur.

 - Generally, the higher the Alert Level, the more guards who will show up at
an area. When the Alert Level is at maximum, an ISLA agent will soon appear
 in most of the areas.

 - Lord Castaneda can return to his sanctum to instantly restore his Life and
Stamina and to wait for the Alert Level to decrease.

 - Lord Castaneda's charging attack, unlike those of the ISLA agents, is
quite lethal. Take care not to kill civilians before sucking their blood.

 - There are no items to obtain.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
[3.1] Part 1 - Building Up Strength (Tonight, You Will Suck... Their Blood)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Castle:

As his eerie demon guide suggests, Lord Castaneda may want to start his
blood-sucking spree with the people in the castle and the castle basement,
where he doesn't have to hop around as much.

Emily, Emma, and Misery can be found in front of the castle. Claude is
in front of the drawbridge (which is always lowered). Kate, Muir, Hilda,
and Richard can be found on the castle 1F. Harry is on the castle 2F.

When Lord Castaneda upgrades to his man-pretty form (after about nine sucks),
he will glide instead of hop, and he will gain the use of his charging attack
and his energy wave attack. Now he can easily suck blood wherever he likes,
 whenever he likes.

Castle Basement:

Teresa, Audrey, and Sofia are inside their cells in the castle basement.
Later, when Abbey leaves the sanctuary, Lord Castaneda will be able to
enter his cell to find Monica.

Be sure to return to this area to find more people after Santino gives
the lockout order. Charles will be in the storeroom. Henry will be in the
drawbridge control room. Diana, Louie, and Frederick will be in the hallways.

Catacombs:

Julia is on the catacombs B3. Conan and Linda are on the catacombs B2.
Ken, Sister Wendy, Natalie, Yuan, and Karl are on the catacombs B1.

Be sure to return to this area to find more people after Santino gives
the lockout order. Wanda will be on the catacombs B3. Santino will be
in the monolith room. Encountering him will also maximize the Alert Level.

Town:

Selene is in the tavern. Knocking on the tavern door to call her out
won't maximize the Alert Level, but it will result in at least one guard
appearing. Kill the guards before biting her.

Sister Casey is walking around in the northeast. Mother Holly and Zliel will
both maximize the Alert Level when Lord Castaneda knocks on their doors, but
that is the only way to make them appear when he comes back to this area.
(For an easier time, go to the sanctum to let the Alert Level decrease,
and then return to bite the two.)

Ryan is in the northwest alleyway. Ignatio is in the east alleyway.
Yohan and Suleiman can be found outside on the road leading to the town.

Smith can be normally found at his home in the southwest alleyway at the
town, but he may be out at the woods collecting ores. When he returns (after
Lord Castaneda visits the woods or after Santino orders the lockout), knock
on his door to make him appear. Doing so will also maximize the Alert Level.

Be sure to return to this area to find more people after Santino gives
the lockout order. LeBron and Mario will be on the road leading to the
town (the same place where Yohan and Suleiman can be found).

Woods:

Nicholas is at the northern dead end of the woods. Roy and Guy are in
the outer woods, the area between the northern dead end and Nelhach's
shack. Melissa can also be found with them if Lord Castaneda has passed
through the town gates (and saw Yohan telling her to go to the woods).

Nelhach can be found near his shack, along with Noah and Yakov. Nathan is
at the end of the river, south of the shack. Thomas is near the island that
 lies upstream to the west.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
[3.2] Part 2 - Showing the ISLA Who's Boss
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

After Lord Castaneda bites or kills most of the civilians, the Alert Level
will constantly be at maximum. The ISLA agents don't restore their Life in
this Mode, so Lord Castaneda can teleport to his sanctum in the middle of
a battle for a quick break, and then he can go back out to finish the job.

Pick a favorable battleground (like the narrow road leading to the castle or
the bottom level of the catacombs), and then take on the ISLA agents. Knock
them down with charging attacks and then hit them with energy wave attacks.
Abbey's perfect aim makes him tougher to beat, but he still needs to reload.

Normally, the ISLA agents will break out of being charmed very quickly.
To keep them charmed long enough to bite them, reduce their Life to less
 than 10 percent.

Kill or bite all three ISLA agents to win.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
[3.3] Ranking
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The rank depends mainly on how many civilians have been bitten. For Rank A,
be sure to bite all 48 civilians and at least one guard.

[5.2] Really Small Details That Suck
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Mario Brothers
This is pretty obvious, but it is still amusing as hell. At least
Mario and Louie aren't stomping on the heads of monsters or throwing
fireballs at Lord Castaneda while grabbing mushrooms and stars.

Wrong Hand
Abbey is right-handed, but during the scene when Nichol is knocked down and
the ISLA agents confront the true Lord Castaneda, Abbey holds his gun with
 his left hand.

Sex Differences
The lesser vampires whom Lord Castaneda creates have different forms
depending on their sex. Female ones have claw-like arms, while male ones
have club-like arms. Their attacks are more or less the same, though,
 so who really cares?
