[1] Overview
==============================================================================

Climax and Konami's Silent Hill Origins (a.k.a. Silent Hill Zero)
is an action adventure, like the previous installments. It is a prequel
whose events are set seven years before those of the original game, and
it features more substantial combat elements, along with other changes.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
[1.1] Story
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Running behind schedule on a delivery, Travis takes a shortcut leading
through the towns of Silent Hill and Brahms late one rainy night. Suddenly,
he spots a cloaked figure, a girl, stumbling onto the middle of the empty
road ahead of him, and he brakes to a halt. As he exits his truck, the
rain strangely gives way to a thick mist. Wondering if the girl is injured,
Travis follows her retreating form into the foggy darkness.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
[1.2] Characters
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Travis Grady, Badass Mother-Trucker
An all-American nice guy with an all-American blue-collar occupation.
Travis is a self-reliant, deeply practical-minded, and very decent man.
Like many other Konami heroes, he shows little interest in bedding with
attractive women, but that doesn't stop him from looking out for a little
girl who is in desperate need of help.

Alessa Gillespie, Magical Maiden in Distress
A quiet girl with an unusually powerful psyche, for which she is being
forced into becoming sacrificial meat for the cult of Samael. Don't worry
about her, though, because in the years to come, Alessa will return as
Cheryl Mason and kick everyone's ass. Some of her favorite things include
classic fairy tales and possibly some anime heroine named Princess Heart.

Lisa Garland, Hot Nurse
A young lady with a love for acting and an even greater passion for bright
red clothing. At this time, Lisa is a trainee nurse who has recently joined
Dr. Kaufmann's team at Alchemilla Hospital. The Lisa whom Harry meets many
years later, however, is someone (or something) completely different.

Michael Kaufmann, Shady Doctor
A mysterious man who doesn't seem very friendly. Dr. Kaufmann is tied
to the cult and its use of White Claudia, but not in the obvious way.
If certain rumors are true, he may also be related to the person with
a similar name in a certain 1988 Konami arcade action game.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
[1.3] Controls
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Movement Stick (Analog Stick) - Move (relative to the screen).

Run Button (Square) - Run instead of walk.

Action Button (X) - Perform a context-sensitive action, like checking
an object, taking an item, opening a door, or kicking a downed enemy.

Aim Button (R) - Aim. Press the Action Button while aiming to attack.
Press it to perform a quick attack. Hold it to perform a heavy attack.
Press forward and the Action Button together to perform a lunging attack.

Flashlight Button (Circle) - Turn on and off the Flashlight.

Camera Button (L) - Adjust the camera.

Weapon Select Pad (D-Pad) - Change weapons (without using the Subscreen).
Press Up to change between Melee Weapons and Firearms. Press Left and Right
to cycle through the weapons of the current type. Press Down to take and
immediately equip a weapon from the environment.

Map Button (Triangle) - Pause, and view the map of the current area.

Subscreen Button (Select) - Pause, and access the Subscreen.

Pause Button (Start) - Pause, and access the Pause Menu.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
[1.4] Melee Weapons
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Bare Hands
Travis' mighty fists, which he uses when he doesn't equip any other weapon.
His two-hit punching combo can continuously pummel most regular enemies,
preventing them from returning a blow. Travis' arms also never break,
so they are apparently tougher than steel bars and industrial tools.

Single-Handed Light Weapons
These include things like knives and screwdrivers. Travis can keep walking
forward while performing quick attacks with these.

Single-Handed Heavy Weapons
These include things like wooden boards and batons. They can do moderate
 amounts of damage.

Double-Handed Heavy Weapons
These include things like large wrenches and axes. They are slow to swing
but can deliver much more pain per blow.

Double-Handed Long Weapons
These include things like poles and intravenous (IV) stands. They have
a much greater range, especially if Travis performs a lunging attack with
them (by pressing forward and the Action Button together).

Thrown Weapons
Large, bulky objects that can be swung at nearby enemies (by pressing
the Action Button) or hurled at them (by holding the Action Button).
Thrown weapons can be used only once before breaking (even though they
are always listed in "yellow" or "moderate" condition), but they do lots
of damage, and they serve as excellent makeshift projectile weapons.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
[1.5] Firearms
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Target Pistol (6 rounds)
A .22-caliber handgun. The Target Pistol is meant more for practice at
the shooting range, but it can still cause some decent damage.

Shotgun (2 rounds)
A basic boomstick. The Shotgun remains effective even at moderate ranges.
 It requires frequent reloading, though.

Service Pistol (8 rounds)
A 9-millimeter handgun. The Service Pistol has both good power and a
 relatively large magazine capacity.

Hunting Rifle (4 rounds)
A .38-caliber rifle. The Hunting Rifle is a very solid choice against
the bosses and other tough enemies.

"Redeemer" (6 rounds)
A .44-caliber magnum revolver. The Redeemer delivers the most damage
per shot, but ammunition for it is very scarce.

Assault Rifle (18 rounds)
A 7.62-millimeter automatic rifle. The Assault Rifle requires Travis
to stand still when he fires it.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
[1.6] Supplies
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Health Drink
A bottle holding a tasty herbal beverage. Restores health by a small amount.
Health Drinks come sealed, keeping them safe to consume no matter if they
are found lying on the filthy ground or floating inside a smelly toilet.

First Aid Kit
A case filled with drugs. Restores health by a large amount.

Ampoule
A sealed vial filled with more drugs. Restores health completely.
Ampoules in this game look noticeably bigger and fatter than before.

Energy Drink
A bottle holding a caffeinated liquid. Restores stamina (but not health),
allowing Travis to keep running at full speed for an extended period
of time. (Energy Drinks appear here for the first time in the series.)

Ammunition
Cartridges used for guns. Comes in boxes of different colors, corresponding
 to the different Firearms.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
[1.7] General Tips
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

 - Using the Flashlight or hitting enemies will draw their attention.
Leave off the Flashlight and simply increase the screen's brightness,
sneaking past bad guys in the darkness.

 - To perform stealth attacks, hit unalerted enemies from the back. Stealth
attacks can knock down bad guys much faster, especially if Travis uses a
heavy attack (by holding the Action Button) or a lunging attack (by pressing
forward and the Action Button together).

 - Unlike the heroes of the previous installments, Travis must stand still
over downed enemies before he can kick them.

 - In the overworld streets, defeated enemies are eventually revived when
 they are off the screen.

 - Complete the button prompt challenges to escape enemy grappling attacks.
For the challenges that involve pressing a series of two buttons (X, Circle,
Square, Triangle), the buttons are always different from each other (i.e.
the second button is never the same as the first one).

==============================================================================
[2] Strategies
==============================================================================

This quick walkthrough focuses on the key points (which is helpful
for earning the Sprinter Accolade). Just for the hell of it, the
term "death world" shall be used to refer to the Otherworld.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
[2.0] Introduction
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Follow the "girl" (Alessa) down the highway.

At the burning house, go to the stairs, up to 2F. Take the burnt girl behind
the counter, and try to return to the stairs. After falling to 1F, continue
through the room. The girl will magically extinguish certain wide stretches
of flames. Exit through the main door.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
[2.1] Alchemilla Hospital
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

[2.1.0] Getting There

After waking up on the streets, Travis will automatically take the
Silent Hill Map. Go north to the hospital. (In a cleared game, also
take the Room 502 Key on the stairs beside the post office. These
stairs and the alleyway containing them are quite different from
the ones in the original Silent Hill.)

[2.1.1] Meeting Dr. Kaufmann, First Mirror Warp

Take the Hospital Map in the 1F Lobby. (The building's layout is quite
different from the one in the original Silent Hill.)

Go through the 1F east corridor, and meet Dr. Kaufmann by the
1F elevator doors. Ride the elevator to 2F.

Go to Room 205, check the mirror, and then try to leave through the door.
Warp through the mirror to the death world.

[2.1.2] Plastic Organs, Icebox, Anatomy Model

Take the Plastic Lungs in Room 205 (death world).

Take the Golden Egg in Room 202 (death world).

(For a shortcut, solve the icebox puzzle in Room 204 now.
Use the code 31-23-19, and take the Plastic Heart.)

Go to the east stairs, down to 1F.

Use the Golden Egg to unlock the door to the 1F Women's Restroom
(death world). Take the Plastic Liver, inside the cistern of
one of the toilets. Check the anatomy notes near the mirror.
Warp through the mirror to the normal world.

Take the Exam Room Key. Check the writing on the walls ("Lucy 23").

Use the Exam Room Key to unlock the door to the 1F Exam Room.

the sinks. Check the writing on the x-ray images ("Sarah 19").

If necessary, warp back through a mirror, and solve the icebox puzzle in
Room 204 (death world). Use the code 31-23-19, according to the writings
seen earlier. Afterward, take the Plastic Heart, and warp back to the
 normal world.

Solve the anatomy model puzzle in the 1F Exam Room. Use the
five plastic organs (Intestines, Stomach, Liver, Heart, Lungs)
to complete the model. Afterward, take the Glass Eyes.

 1F Women's Restroom).

Use the Glass Eyes to unlock the door in the 1F west corridor (death world).

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
[2.4] Riverside Motel
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

[2.4.0] Getting There

After waking up in the theater, take the Motel Key in the 1F Lobby, from
the dead body. Exit through the main doors.

Go to the Public Records Office to find items.
(For a shortcut, skip this part.)

Go west to Andy's Bookstore. (There is also a place called Andy's Shop
in the original Silent Hill, but whether that and this bookstore are
owned by the same person is left open to question.)

Take the Assault Rifle in Andy's Bookstore, from the Travis cut-out.
Solve the cash register puzzle. Use the code 213, according to the
notes about the apartment number. Afterward, take the Bookstore Key,
and use it to unlock the backdoor.

appear there. Go south to the General Store. Exit through the backdoor.
 Continue west to the motel.

Use the Room 306 Key to unlock the door to Room 306. Warp through the mirror
 to the death world.

[2.4.2] Reaching Room 503

Go out to the east lot (death world). Continue to the central lot just
outside the 1F Reception Room. Go through the south-central lot, and
continue into the southmost lot (because there is no barrier here in
 the death world).

Go to Room 503 (death world). Warp through the mirror to the normal world.

||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

To earn the Ambassador Accolade (UFO Ending), use the Room 502 Key

(The word "accommodation" is misspelled on the map.)

Use the Manager's Office Key to unlock the door to the 1F Manager's Office.

Go to the 1F Kitchen. Defeat the boss (the Butcher).

[2.4.4] Washing Machine, Meeting Nurse Garland and Dr. Kaufmann

Go through the 1F Diner, to the pool lot.

Take the Token in the 1F Game Room.

Solve the washer puzzle in the 1F Laundromat. Check the laundry symbol

1 - Low Spin (circle with one dot)
2 - 60 Degree Wash (bucket with two dots)
3 - Drain (square with down arrow)
  4 - Pre-Rinse (square with circling arrow)
 Afterward, take the Cleopatra Key.

Use the Cleopatra Key to unlock the door to the 2F Cleopatra Suite.
Drop through the hole in the bathroom.

Meet Nurse Garland and Dr. Kaufmann in the 1F Rose Suite, as they finish
doing stuff to each other after sniffing white powder from the table.
Warp through the mirror to the death world.

[2.4.5] Reaching the Pool Bottom, Rotary Calendar

Take the Jeweled Heart in the 1F Pool (death world).

Take the Ornamental Dagger in the 1F Diner (death world).

Use the Ornamental Dagger to unlock the door to the 2F Nero Suite

 take the Wedding Ring.

Solve the rotary calendar puzzle in the 1F Reception Room. Use the
date 06-12-1961, according to the inscriptions on the Wedding Ring,
the markings on Room 500's calendar, and the markings on Travis'
Lucky Quarter. Then, use the Wedding Ring on the rotary calendar.
Afterward, take the Room 500 Key from the key board.

Defeat the boss (Richard Grady). Afterward, take the Truth Piece.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
[2.5] Nowhere
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

[2.5.0] Getting There

After waking up in the hospital basement, go through the storage rooms.

Solve the Flauros Device puzzle in the large storage room. Take the
Present Piece, and use the four smaller pieces to complete it, restoring
the whole Flauros Device. (Press L and R to spin to the next corner of the
entire device. Press X to attach one of the smaller pieces to the current
corner. Press Square to rotate the smaller piece. Press Circle to remove
it. Press the Analog Stick to view the adjacent sides of the current corner.
Interestingly enough, the buttons L and R during this puzzle are listed
 as L1 and R1.)

Add the attributes of the symbols along the surfaces of the four smaller
pieces, so the sum of the attributes will generally match the figures on
the sides of the central piece:
  - large circle with long curves cutting across it
  - large circle with short curves sticking out from its outer edges
  - small circles with short angled lines
  - small circles with Xs

One possible solution is (beginning with the initial corner and
pressing R to the next corner):
  1st corner - 3rd piece
  2nd corner - 1st piece
  3rd corner - 2nd piece
  4th corner - 4th piece

Afterward, follow Alessa through the now-unlocked door. Go to the end of
the corridor. Go to the stairs, up to 1F. Exit through the south doors.
(For some reason, Alessa's hair looks longer than usual in the cutscene.)

[2.5.1] Streets

Take the Child's Map shortly after emerging on the death world streets,
on the wall at the S-shaped alleyway.

Follow Alessa's directions on her map, and make fun of her bad spelling.
(Items can be found off the marked path, but this area is still treated
as a part of the overworld, so defeated enemies are eventually revived
when they are off the screen.)

Go to the Green Lion Antiques Shop. Crawl through the tunnel to the
antechamber. (This area is quite different from the one in the original
 Silent Hill.)

[2.5.2] Meeting the Boss

Go to the altar room. Defeat the boss (Samael).

[4.2] Secret Weapons and Items
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The secret weapons seem to be unbreakable or have infinite ammunition.

Moon Gauntlets (Melee Weapon)
A magical pair of gloves. The Moon Gauntlets are obscenely powerful,
killing even bosses with about two to four hits. (Although they
are used as punching attacks, they are treated as a Melee Weapon,
not bare fists, so they can't be used to earn the Brawler Accolade.)
To obtain this item, earn the Savior Accolade.

Great Cleaver (Melee Weapon)
The Butcher's blade. The Great Cleaver is a single-handed heavy weapon
that is about as deadly as the Moon Gauntlets.
To obtain this item, earn the Butcher Accolade.

Tesla Rifle (Firearm)
An energy gun named after the famous scientist. The Tesla Rifle works like
the Assault Rifle, and it has very high power and infinite ammunition.
To obtain this item, earn the Ambassador Accolade.

Fire Axe (Melee Weapon)
 A fireman's tool (possibly Dean McGregor's). The Fire Axe is a double-handed
heavy weapon that doesn't do much more damage than usual, but like the other
secret weapons, it seems to be unbreakable.
To obtain this item, earn the Fireman Accolade.

Night Vision Goggles (Item)
A special operative's device. The Night Vision Goggles let Travis see in the
dark without using the Flashlight (and without suffering from any associated
framerate issues). However, the greenish hue may make items more difficult
 to see at times.
To obtain this item, earn the Stalker Accolade.

Room 502 Key (Item)
A strange key. The Room 502 Key is used to earn the Ambassador Accolade.
To find this item on the stairs beside the post office, earn the
 Savior Accolade.
