[1] Overview
==============================================================================

Tamtex's Metal Storm is an action platformer that features a hero
who can reverse gravity to bypass many obstacles.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
[1.0] Game Version Differences
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

 - The languages used are different. The font and some of the wording
are also different. For example, the Japanese version uses the terms
"Players" and "Warning!," while the English version uses "M-308 Gunners"
 and "Red Alert!"

 - The color palettes are different. For example, in the Japanese version
the M-308 is white in appearance, while in the English version it is orange.

 - In the Japanese version, the sixth Stage is more difficult, due to the
addition of energy beams running along the top and the bottom of the screen.

 - In the Japanese version, the seventh Stage has text dialogue that is
displayed as the M-308 destroys each node on the boss.

 - The Epilogues and the Staff Credits are different. The Japanese version
also has a Prologue that the English version does not have.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
[1.1] Story
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In 3521, mankind faces a disaster. The powerful Giga Laser on Cyberg,
a battle station built at Pluto, suffers a fatal malfunction. Originally
designed to protect us from hostile aliens, it is now bent on destroying
the entire solar system. Neptune has been turned into butt sauce, and now
Earth's turn is next. Our fate depends on the advanced M-308 Storm Gunner,
who must activate Cyberg's self-destruct device. It must hurry, because the
Giga Laser has already begun to recharge and is preparing to fire again.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
[1.2] The M-308 Gunner
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The M-308 Custom Storm Gunner
 Code Name: Metal Storm
 Height: 3 meters
 Mass: 952 kilograms
 Power Level: 1300 kilowatts
 Armor: Geopolyum Alloy
 Weapons:
Fusion Rifle (with Magnetic Clamp Stock Power Magazines),
and Plasma Beam, Shield Force, or Gravity Fireball
 Special Equipment:
G-REV Gravity Control Device (GravCon), Anti-Gravity Unit, Hyper Boosters,
Armed Movable Wings, Sensor Array, Night Vision Scopes, Thermal Vents
 Function:
  All-Purpose Combat Robot

Fusion Rifle
The M-308's primary weapon. This can be upgraded to shoot the Plasma Beam,
but the M-308 may equip only one special weapon at a time, so if it is using
the Shield Force or the Gravity Fireball, it won't use the Plasma Beam.

G-REV Gravity Control Device (GravCon)
Allows "normal" function in any gravitational field, and allows the M-308 to
reverse the gravitational field around itself. This device is located in the
large domes behind the M-308's shoulders.

Anti-Gravity Unit
Works in conjunction with the GravCon to facilitate movement.

Hyper Boosters
Mounted next to the wings, these let the M-308 fly around in space.

Armed Movable Wings
These help stabilize the M-308 when it is jumping or flying.
The M-308's wings fold in when it has Enhanced Armor.

Sensor Array
The M-308 is just a big fat robot who tends to get into trouble, so it will
be better off if it can check out its surroundings with this set of highly
 advanced scanning equipment.

Night Vision Scopes
These let the M-308 see in the dark, but they won't be used in the game
because Cyberg's interior is pretty well-lit.

Thermal Vents
These help keep the M-308 cool even when it uses the Gravity Fireball.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
[1.3] Controls
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Movement Pad (D-Pad) - Move. Press Left and Right to run. Press Up and Down
to aim upward and downward (relative to the screen). On the Password Screen,
press this to move the Input Cursor.

Fire Button (B) - Fire. The M-308 can shoot up to two projectiles onto
the screen at a time, and it may equip only one special weapon at a time.
On the Password Screen, press this to move the Output Cursor backward
and to move the Input Cursor to whichever character the Output Cursor
 is highlighting.

Jump Button (A) - Jump. The longer this is pressed, the higher the jump.
Hold "Up" while pressing this to reverse gravity. Hold "Down" while
pressing this to return gravity to normal. (The controls always remain
relative to the screen, regardless of gravitational orientation.)
On the Password Screen, press this to enter a character.

Cycle Button (Select) - Cycle between "START" and "PASSWORD" on the
Main Menu. On the Password Screen, press this to move the Output Cursor
to the first character of the Password and to move the Input Cursor to
A (in the Japanese version) or 0 (in the English version).

Pause Button (Start) - Pause.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
[1.4] Structures
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Normal Platforms
The M-308 may jump through these from any direction. They are either
unmarked or are labeled with both a tiny up arrow and a tiny down arrow.

Up-Arrow Platforms
The M-308 may jump up through these only from the bottom.

Down-Arrow Platforms
The M-308 may jump down through these only from the top.

Reinforced Walls
Regular shots won't pass through these, but the Plasma Beam will.

Really Reinforced Walls
Absolutely no shots may pass through these, not even Plasma Beams.

Spikes
Ouch. These kill the M-308 if it lands on their sharp surfaces, and
no shots may pass through these.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
[1.5] Weapons and Items
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

All items come in the form of Chips. Except for the B Chip, every Chip
adds 1000 Points along with its indicated effect.

Item: P Chip - Power Blaster Unit (Japanese), Plasma Beam Unit (English)
Notes:
Modifies the M-308's fusion rifle to fire plasma-boosted shots. These shots
are stronger and wider than the standard shots, and they can destroy certain
enemy projectiles and penetrate some structures that standard shots cannot.

Item: S Chip - Buster Shield Unit (Japanese), Shield Force Unit (English)
Notes:
Generates a protective barrier in front of the M-308. It absorbs most
enemy projectiles and damages any bad guys it touches. It normally faces
the direction toward which the M-308 moves, but the M-308 can lightly
turn around to leave it in its last position, effectively using it as
a rear shield. The M-308 can also "push" it forward by kneeling or by
running against a wall, causing it to edge out a little bit and hit anything
 that gets in its way.

Item: G Chip - Gravity Attack Unit (Japanese), Gravity Fireball Unit (English)
Notes:
Envelopes the M-308 in protective flames whenever it flips gravity. The
Gravity Fireball damages or destroys any bad guys and enemy projectiles
that touch the M-308, while the M-308 will be rendered invulnerable
until it lands on the floor or ceiling.

Item: C Chip - Crusher
Notes:
Creates a large field of energy that can destroy every bad guy on the
screen. The Crusher is used as soon as the M-308 grabs it.

Item: A Chip - Guard Unit (Japanese), Enhanced Geopolyum Armor (English)
Notes:
Gives the M-308 more protection so it can suck up two hits instead of one
before blowing up. The M-308 will look bulkier if it has this. Some enemies
die if they touch the M-308 while it has Armor, too.

Item: B Chip - Bonus Points
Notes:
 Adds 5000 Points. Wheeee!

Item: T Chip - Time
Notes:
Adds 120 seconds to the Timer. Most Stages start off with 400 seconds on
the clock. (The M-308 gets 200 seconds if it restarts from a Checkpoint.)

Item: 1-Up Chip
Notes:
Adds 1 Life. This tends not to reappear like the other items if the
M-308 gets wasted and restarts the Section.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
[1.6] Score Screen
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Every enemy the M-308 blasts and every item it collects gives it Points.
Bad guys killed by other things do not add to its Score. At the end of
every Stage, the Score Screen tallies up the M-308's Total Score.

Area Score
The Points the M-308 earns from blasting enemies and from grabbing items
during the first two Sections of the Stage.

Clear Bonus (Japanese), Stage Bonus (English)
The Points the M-308 earns from defeating the boss, depending on how quickly
 it does so.

Time Bonus
The Points the M-308 earns from the time it has left when it reaches the
boss. The Points it earns are the number of seconds remaining on the Timer
 multiplied by 50.

Stage Total
The sum of the three above Scores.

Total Score
The net Score from the previous Stages and the current one.

The ones digit of the Score is always 0 in Normal Mode and 4 in Expert Mode.
The Score is not displayed during the Boss Sections.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
[1.7] General Tips
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

 - Flip gravity to beat obstacles that otherwise can't be overcome.

 - Once the M-308 flips gravity, it cannot do so again until it lands on the
 floor or ceiling.

 - The M-308 can make longer and higher jumps by flipping gravity at the
peak of its jump, allowing it to cross huge chasms (providing there is a
ceiling on the other side). It can also do this to jump past two floors
at a time, if the floors are close enough together.

 - Shooting enemies from the top or bottom, from the other side of a
normal wall (with the Plasma Beam), or from the other side of the screen
(in screen-looping Stages) will often expose the M-308 to less danger.

 - Against a lone but tough target, the Plasma Beam's focused strength will
usually be an advantage. For battles where a more defensive approach is
required, the Gravity Fireball or the Shield Force will come in handier.

 - In Expert Mode, using the Gravity Fireball or the Shield Force is strongly
recommended. The opposition the M-308 faces is so great that it must render
itself invulnerable or eliminate projectiles to pass certain areas.

 - When the M-308 crosses over from the first Section of a Stage to the
second Section, whatever time it has left is retained. If it gets wasted
and restarts from the Checkpoint, the Timer will be reset to a preset value.

 - If the M-308 gets wasted but has at least 1 Life in reserve, it will
restart from the beginning of the Section.

 - If it's Game Over, the M-308's Score is reset to 0, it loses any special
weapon it has, and it may continue by restarting from the beginning of the
first or second Section of the Stage. (If it gets wasted at a Boss Section,
it will be booted back to the second Section.) There are infinite Credits.

 - Passwords are displayed on the Score Screen at the end of every Stage.
They record which Stage the M-308 has reached, any special weapon and Armor
it has, and its Score. Every Password consists of ten characters.

[2] Strategies
==============================================================================

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
[2.0] Prologue
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

To view the Prologue, play the Japanese version.

[We see some titles noting Tamtex and the people who've directed, programmed,
 and designed the graphics.]

[We see images of Cyberg, interspersed with text narration about
its Giga Laser and the scene of a planet turning into butt sauce.]

[We see the Giga Laser's targeting reticle locking onto Earth.]

[We see some simple schematics of the M-308. There is a front view,
a rear view, and a side view of it.]

[We see an animation of the M-308 floating near Cyberg, turning toward it,
 and then flying into it.]

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
[2.1] Stage 1: Access Corridor Alpha
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Password:

 Normal (Japanese) - ------------ (P) ------------ (S) ------------ (G)
 Expert (Japanese) - 131-DDFW-KEB (P) NWR-EYMK-GC7 (S) 8XB-EK5R-G3G (G)

 Normal (English) - ------------ (P) ------------ (S) ------------ (G)
 Expert (English) - 131-DDFW-KSB (P) NWR-S!MK-GC7 (S) 8XB-SK5R-G3G (G)

Story:

This corridor has been designed as a route for maintenance crews, but
apparently they won't be needing it anymore. Being lightly defended,
it serves as a great entry point for the M-308.

General Hints:

Nothing in this Stage should be too tough for the M-308 to handle. It
should have no problem navigating across the simple terrain and blasting
the relatively harmless robots. Just remember how the blue droids also
flip upside-down whenever the M-308 does.

Walkthrough:

 Section 1-1
 Normal - 400 seconds
 Expert - 400 seconds

Go right past the blue robots. These guys just run left and right on the
floors and ceilings. Their gravitational fields are reversed along with
 the M-308's whenever it flips.

After the tenth blue bot, the M-308 will find a white bot circling a
platform. Get rid of it, but watch out for another white bot coming along
the floor. The M-308 can reverse gravity and go on the ceiling to avoid it.

Next, kill the two blue bots between the three Double-Arrow platforms.
Jump on the platforms or reverse gravity to get up onto the high wall.
Now jump across the spikes or run along the ceiling.

Watch out for the red turret on the other side. If the M-308 is on the
ceiling, it should run ahead and kneel before the shot comes. Behind this
turret may be another blue bot. Kill the turret while jumping up when it
stops firing, or hit it from the ceiling.

 Section 1-2
 Normal - 200 seconds
 Expert - 200 seconds

Stay on the floor. Shoot upward to kill the turret on the platform.
Now jump up to grab an A Chip and a G Chip. The Armor will definitely
help, and the Gravity Fireball will let the M-308 zip through enemies
and their projectiles whenever it reverses gravity. Flip again and
jump back down through the floor.

Stay on the ground. There will be another turret. Gravity Fireball upward,
blow it away, and then go back down to the floor just to be safe. Ahead are
two more turrets and one blue bot. If the M-308 flips up, it can take them
out with ease. Afterward there are another three turrets. The M-308 should
get rid of them. Jump up the platforms and fight one blue bot. Drop down
and fight one turret. Reverse gravity and kill one more turret on the ledge.
The M-308 can Gravity Fireball through the shots if it wants.

Get on the ceiling now. Jump downward through the two platforms. Run right
carefully, because there is a huge robot guarding the hallway. It sweeps
through the entire path, and there is no way out until it is destroyed,
so keep firing. When the robot gets too close, the M-308 should run back
to give itself more space. (If the M-308 touches this robot while it has
Armor, the robot will blow up.) After this robot, look out for two blue
bots. There is a P Chip at the top, before the end.

Boss: Gorgoth (Reactor)

Gorgoth is a ceiling-mounted reactor that also doubles as a guard of sorts.
It periodically shoots out a series of three energy rings aimed roughly
toward the M-308's position. (The boss' tracking ability really sucks.)
Also coming out of Gorgoth is a big pinkish purple dome. That is its
weak point. Shoot it enough times, and the big bad boss will go BOOM!

There are three places where the M-308 can hide. The first one is underneath
Gorgoth's center and slightly to the side. Gorgoth will shoot the rings
straight down, but they will miss. The other two places are on the ceiling,
either to the left or to the right. If the M-308 kneels, the rings will
also miss. Stand up and shoot at the dome when it emerges.

The dome pops up in a complex pattern. Its first four appearances are on
the bottom, on the right, on the left, and on the left again. If the M-308
is fast and is equipped with the Plasma Beam, it can kill Gorgoth during
the dome's second exposure. If the M-308 touches the dome while it has
Armor, the dome will simply disappear and then move to the next spot.

Expert Mode Hints:

Beware of the blue bots. They now fire tiny horizontal bullets if the M-308
lines up with them. The white bots that roll along the surfaces can shoot
 vertical bullets, too.

There are many more turrets, of different sorts, than before. Proceed
slowly to avoid getting trapped by walls of enemy fire.

The large robot sweeping the corridor in Section 1-2 will now shoot wave
beams. Reverse gravity to avoid the beams, because the bot alternates
between firing high shots and firing low shots.

Gorgoth gets beefed-up with a new weapon. Along with its triple-ring attack,
an additional homing ring of a darker color will follow the M-308. While
this homing ring can be easily avoided or quickly destroyed with the Plasma
Beam, the M-308 shouldn't underestimate it while standing right next to
Gorgoth, firing mindlessly at the dome.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
[2.2] Stage 2: Tesseract Tunnel

 Expert (English) - QVF-Q4R@-4@0 (P) W!P-8753-RKD (S) 5TV-54JR-RLN (G)

Story:

The Tesseract Tunnel is Cyberg's first true line of defense, utilizing warp
technology to confuse intruders. The looping corridors are lined with extra
robots and traps to further impede the M-308's progress.

General Hints:

Once the M-308 gets used to the screen warping, it should have no trouble
reaching the end. Press forward to the right, jumping up or down to get
around the obstacles in the way. The M-308 should use the looping to its
 own advantage.

Walkthrough:

 Section 2-1
 Normal - 400 seconds
 Expert - 100 seconds

Run right until two blue bots can be seen. Up leads to down and vice-versa,
so don't worry about falling off. Get rid of the blue bots and move ahead.
If the M-308 jumps on top of the yellow floor, it will find a B Chip. If it
jumps onto the bottom of the same floor, it will find a P Chip. If the M-308
already has the Plasma Beam, it should grab the B Chip. It cannot get both.

Beware of the green traps. When the M-308 moves between them, it has a
short amount of time to get away before they clamp down on it. Hop up and
immediately leap up again to avoid their attack.

Continue to the right. Jump upward past another pair of green traps. Keep
moving onward. The M-308 should see a B Chip on the other side of a wall
blocking it, and it should see an A Chip on the bottom. The M-308 should
get the A Chip (by reversing gravity as necessary) if it doesn't have Armor
already. Getting the B Chip requires even faster reflexes. The M-308 can
jump up, grab it, and then jump again quickly to dodge the green traps.

Go up and continue to the right, staying on the "ceiling." Quickly jump
downward past the double set of green traps. As soon as the M-308 goes
right, a white ship will appear. Get rid of it. These guys can shoot
parabolic shots out from their backs.

Now the M-308 should be "underneath" five floors stacked together. The trick
here is to jump up and to the right. The M-308 should keep moving unless it
wants to get caught by the green traps.

 Section 2-2
 Normal - 200 seconds
 Expert - 200 seconds

There is a 1-Up Chip to the top right. Jump into the space between the
spikes, and then reverse gravity before hitting the spikes to drop up
 onto the item.

Jump through the Up-Arrow platform and continue. The red and white gates
swing open and shut whenever the M-308 flips. If it gets in their way while
they swing, the M-308 dies, whether it has Armor or not. Be sure to find a
safe place in which to reverse gravity.

For the first gate, stay away to the right and flip. Deal with the other
gates in a similar manner, staying out of their way when flipping. Keep
going on until two turrets can be seen. If the M-308 has the Plasma Beam,
it can shoot through the floors to destroy them. If it doesn't, it will
have to go through the Up-Arrow platform and do things the hard way.

Now jump up along the staircase-like path until the next step up is covered
with spikes. Reverse gravity and continue right. Drop up onto an A Chip.
Jump to the underside of the spike floor (to the left of the gate). Go
rightside-up and carefully jump across to the right. Go through the Up-Arrow
platforms. See that B Chip? Go upside-down and jump down to the ledge below
the gate. Reverse gravity again to fall onto the B Chip. (This item may
disappear if it is scrolled off the screen.)

Get out and drop into the vertical shaft to the right. The M-308 will keep
falling, so move right to continue. There are two more gates. Manipulate
gravity as needed to get past them. The M-308 can go upside-down and leap
through the Down-Arrow platform if it wants a P Chip. Before jumping down,
the M-308 should use that trick where it reverses gravity at the peak of
its jump to bypass the two plain platforms to the left. Once the M-308 is
at the bottom, it can follow a path to another B Chip.

Jump out quickly, because a bunch of flying white ships will approach. Take
them out before they can squeeze off their shots. Jump through the platforms
to avoid enemy fire and to get past the walls.

Boss: The Energizers (Plasma Cannons)

The Energizers are a group of five plasma cannons mounted onto a wall.
Each one fires independently, so the M-308 never knows when one will
open up and spew out a stream of plasma.

The M-308 should begin by shooting the Energizer in its corridor. When the
Energizer's beak-like helmet retracts to shoot, jump to the floor above or
below it. Chances are the Energizer that has just fired won't shoot again
for some time, so the M-308 should reverse gravity and go back to the
corridor from where it has started and finish the job there. After that
Energizer blows up, there are still four more to beat, but at least now
the M-308 has a safe spot to which it can retreat. The Energizers are
not affected when the M-308 touches them while it has Armor.

If the M-308 has the Plasma Beam, it can stand a little to the left over
where the red floor meets the yellow floor and shoot downward, so the
Plasma Beam shots will go through the red floor, hitting the remaining
Energizers when they open up and extend themselves into the M-308's shots.

If the M-308 has the Shield Force, it can kneel down over the top of an
Energizer, pushing the Shield Force right into it. When it is gone, go
into its space and do the same thing to the next Energizer.

Expert Mode Hints:

The M-308 will start off with less time than usual in the first Section,
but two T Chips near the end should solve that problem. The white ships
that fire curving bullets from their asses will appear near the beginning.
Don't get trapped by their projectiles.

The M-308's biggest problem comes from the green traps. Because they snap
shut very quickly now, the M-308 will have to go through some extra steps
to beat them. Lightly hop up once, with the M-308's head slightly entering
the traps' corridor, so they will slam together. While they are returning to
their original positions, quickly jump past them. At the end of Section 2-1,
where there are five sets of them, methodically but swiftly hop and leap
through them, tricking the next pair up to slam together just as the one
on the current floor is resetting its positions. Be sure to line up with
the center of the next floor up to properly time the jumps.

The Energizers are tougher, because several of them can now fire
simultaneously. Furthermore, any destroyed Energizer will reappear
 after 2 minutes.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
[2.3] Stage 3: Gravitrain Access Corridor
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Password:

 Normal (Japanese) - J3E-FDFX-KHB (P) ------------ (S) XNE-FDFN-H2F (G)
 Expert (Japanese) - XMO-9353-1FG (P) OHO-77FU-Z6B (S) 17N-21JU-RDH (G)

 Expert (English) - XMV-9353-1FG (P) VHV-77F0-Z6B (S) 17N-21J0-RDH (G)

Story:

Cyberg's automated supply route has become another line of defense. The
Gravitrains that ride along its gravity track are strong enough to crush
anything in their path, and the spikes and robot drones lining the corridor
 make it even more dangerous.

General Hints:

Move forward carefully, avoiding the Gravitrains that periodically pass
through the place. When drones appear, destroy them first. The M-308 should
take extra care when jumping over spikes. It still has to watch out for
 the Gravitrains.

Walkthrough:

 Section 3-1
 Normal - 400 seconds
 Expert - 400 seconds

If the Gravitrains are on a collision course with the M-308, it should
waste them before they crash into it. As soon as a Gravitrain passes by
or is destroyed, continue forward. When the M-308 reaches the spike floor,
it should go along the ceiling or jump across the spikes. Grab the G Chip.
The Gravity Fireball will protect the M-308 whenever it flips.

If the M-308 doesn't want the Gravity Fireball, then how about the Shield
Force? There is an S Chip to the right, found along the ceiling. Further
to the right, underneath a ledge, is an A Chip. The M-308 should take it,
especially if it doesn't have Armor already.

Keep going to the right, but watch out for a white turret near the top of
the screen. If the M-308 has the Gravity Fireball, it can flip upward to
fry the turret, along with any Gravitrain in the way. If the M-308 has the
Shield Force, it can sit at the bottom and fire upward. The Shield will
protect the M-308 from both Gravitrains and the turret's projectiles.
Flip and move ahead. (When the screen stops scrolling, the Gravitrains
 will also stop appearing.)

 Section 3-2
 Normal - 200 seconds
 Expert - 200 seconds

Again, watch out for the Gravitrains. There will be a P Chip and an A Chip.
(The M-308 can get only one.) Upon reaching the narrow passageway, run along
the ceiling, over the spikes. Ahead, on the bottom, is an energy column trap.
This trap cannot be destroyed, but the M-308 can shut it off by reversing
gravity. Likewise, the trap can be turned back on when the M-308 flips again,
so the M-308 should get the hell out of the trap's way when it does. After
passing the trap, jump on the little platform and then hop over the spikes.
The M-308 should jump lightly, unless it enjoys having spikes jabbed into
 its brains or butt.

Continue right. On the top will be another white turret. When no Gravitrain
is in the way, aim up and blow it away. Now, go upside-down and race along
the ceiling. Hop or run over the small set of spikes and get above the small
platform. If the M-308 stands between the two parts of the track, where the
track bends down and wraps around underneath the small platform, the M-308
will be safe. When the path is clear, it should move right until it sees
more spikes. Flip back down onto the two longer platforms. The Gravitrain
track cuts through the next platform, but the M-308 won't fall through this
cut-out part when it runs right across the platform.

The next part requires the M-308 to be upside-down. Stand on the bottom
of the very small ledge jutting out from a wall. When the M-308 is ready,
it should jump down and run underneath the wall and on to the other side,
where it will be safe again. Remember to blast any Gravitrains getting
 in the way.

Want the B Chip? Blow up the Gravitrains on the other side, quickly run
to the right, drop up to the ceiling, and run back to the left. Grab
the item, get back up on the ceiling, and then resume toward the right.
Reverse gravity near the spikes, and drop down to the platform.

Boss: Gultzen (Disc Drone and Laser Traps)

Gultzen is a drone that uses a variety of things to get rid of intruders:
Itself, the twin disc-like blades revolving around it, and the two lines
of laser bolts crisscrossing each other at a perpendicular angle.

The boss starts off above the M-308. Aim up and pound it. After a while,
it will unlock itself and move. It may only float to four spots in the room,
which are marked by the big yellow circles in the background. Gultzen goes
to the spot closest to where the M-308 is, so the M-308 should move as soon
as the boss unlocks. The difficult part comes from the M-308 timing its way
through the laser bolts without getting whacked by Gultzen or the circling
death blades. When Gultzen locks itself down, start shooting it again. The
blades can block the M-308's shots, but the shots will hit Gultzen most of
the time. The boss is vulnerable only when it stops. Touching Gultzen with
 Armor will not affect it.

The laser bolts divide the screen into four quadrants. The M-308 should be
in a quadrant different from that of Gultzen, because the revolving blades
will cover almost all of the boss' quadrant. Run left and right or flip
to maneuver past the gaps between the laser bolts. The safest way to move
is to go counterclockwise around the room, moving one quadrant at a time.
Avoiding Gultzen is a lot tougher if it cuts diagonally across the screen.

There is an almost effortless trick to beating Gultzen that requires the
Gravity Fireball or the sacrificing of Armor. When the battle starts, just
flip and fall through the boss. By dropping onto the ceiling directly above
the boss, the M-308 will be in its blind spot. The blades can't hit the
M-308 (because they will fly through the ceiling and miss the M-308's feet),
and Gultzen can't ram into the M-308 because it is restricted to the yellow
circles (in this case, it will be stuck in the same spot). All the M-308 has
to do now is aim at Gultzen and blast away. Just be sure to line up properly
with Gultzen, because its blind spot is very small.

Expert Mode Hints:

First, the M-308 will see that the Gravitrains are of a new grayish black
color. Second, it will discover that they are incredibly tougher to kill.
Unless the M-308 spends several moments pumping the Gravitrains with Plasma
Beam fire, they are not gonna die, so our hero's best bet is to simply avoid
them. The Stage is more or less the same, but now the M-308 must proceed
more cautiously, waiting for the Gravitrains to pass and running quickly
to the next safe spot when the path is clear.

Watch out after the initial series of spikes in Section 3-2. A bunch
of flying robots will dart out and squeeze off some shots at the M-308.
This area is extremely deadly due to the sheer amount of projectiles and
enemies, not to mention the nearly indestructible Gravitrains that are
 still pouring through the place.

Gultzen is much faster. The M-308 should predict when the boss is going
to move, so it can run ahead first. The blind spot trick still works,
if the M-308 has the Gravity Fireball or is willing to give up Armor.

Story:

Originally created to transport scientists safely through fields of space
mines, this structure has been modified by Cyberg into a flying deathtrap.
It will take passengers closer to the Core, but along the way they must
endure a vast array of hazards.

General Hints:

The Cage moves in a preset pattern. (Each Section, no matter what the
Difficulty Setting is, lasts about 70 seconds.) The M-308 must be quick
if it wants to grab any items that appear before the Cage slides away.
This is the only Stage where the Expert Mode version is radically different
 from the Normal Mode version.

Walkthrough:

 Section 4-1 (Normal Mode)
 Normal - 500 seconds

The Cage begins by moving to the right. The M-308 should stay on the
ceiling if it wants the Gravity Fireball. The green orbs are floating
mines. They cannot be destroyed, but they still kill the M-308 if it
touches them. The first green orbs are placed at the bottom and the
top of the Cage's path. Jump or flip around them. The M-308 can also
use the Gravity Fireball to pass through them.

Now get to the ground as quickly as possible, because a gray orb will appear
very soon. Each of these orbs comes with a spinning disc blade. Shoot the
gray orb to destroy it along with its revolving blade. Right after this
gray orb is another one, but this one is at the top. Shoot up at it, and
then flip to the ceiling to avoid the next two green orbs.

The M-308 will eventually see an A Chip stuck between a triad of green orbs.
Gravity Fireball through the orbs to get the item and then flip again to
escape. At the top right corner will be a P Chip. Act fast, because the Cage
will temporarily stop and then continue upward. Don't get trapped by the
 green orbs.

When the Cage slides up, prepare to dodge three pairs of green traps.
When the bottom pair is almost lined up with the top of the M-308's head,
it should flip and drop up past them.

Now look out for three white turrets at the upper right corner. Get back
to the Cage's lower left and deal with them quickly, because the Cage will
start moving to the right. Stay low and avoid the next pair of green orbs.
Flip to avoid more green orbs. After a while, a gray orb will appear on the
top, so prepare to blast it. After the M-308 does so, it should run up to
where it has been and flip down to face another gray orb.

Get ready for the regenerating blue turrets. These guys reappear shortly
after the M-308 blows them up, although touching the flashing spots while
they are regenerating is harmless. The first turret is at the right. When
the Cage slides upward, there will be another one at the left. As soon as
the Cage moves right again, a third and a fourth turret will appear from
the top and from the bottom, respectively. There is a point where the Cage
pauses when these two turrets are inside it, so stay in the lower left
corner and blast upward and rightward to keep them away. The Cage then
continues to the right, where another turret will appear at the top.

 Minibosses: The Galons (Surface Drones)

There are four Galons, and they start by racing clockwise around the Cage's
surfaces. They will accelerate, slow down, and then fire a circular shot in
the direction opposite to the side where they are. (For example, the Galon
on the ceiling will shoot downward.) After that, they will repeat the
pattern in the opposite direction. If the M-308 touches a Galon while
it has Armor, only that particular Galon will die.

When the battle starts, the M-308 should immediately attack the Galon to its
left as much as possible, and then it should jump over the Galon approaching
from its right. Now it should just keep firing left and right as it lightly
hops over the Galons dashing past underneath it, landing between them before
 jumping again.

 Section 4-2 (Normal Mode)
 Normal - 200 seconds

The Cage starts by moving to the right. In the lower half of the screen
there will be an S Chip. Above will be an A Chip. The red bugs will go
toward the Cage's edges, pause, and then rush at the M-308. The M-308 may
not be able to hit them due to their odd angles of approach, so it should
prepare to jump or flip out of their way. If it has the Shield Force,
it should have an easier time destroying them. The first bug appears
from behind the S Chip. The rest come from various directions. The M-308
can stay in the middle of the ceiling to give itself more room. It will
also want to be on the ceiling for the next part.

After four or five bugs, there will be three items. At the top is a C Chip,
and at the bottom are a G Chip and a P Chip. The Cage will slide downward
and to the right really quickly, but if the M-308 manages to pick up the
Crusher, the bug that pops up at the bottom will die.

A few more red bugs will appear, but the real danger now comes from the
shield turrets, which are armored on every side except for one. These guys
spit out little shots that are tough to see. Get to the floor and destroy
the first turret from its exposed bottom side.

After the first shield turret and another red bug, the Cage will move
upward. The next shield turret appears at the left, and its exposed
side is also its bottom. If the M-308 doesn't want to risk getting
crushed by the turret, it should move to the right. It can also use
the Gravity Fireball, if it has that. A third turret will soon show
up at the right, but its exposed side is its top.

Now come the barriers. A wall on the right will form from the top and
bottom edges of the screen. (It makes a distinctive "wwhhrrnn" sound.)
Once completed, a launcher in the middle drops missiles out at an angle.
The M-308 should stay back so it can jump up and shoot the launcher, which
will destroy the wall. If the M-308 doesn't waste the launcher, it will
get squished when the Cage continues onward. (The walls themselves only
block the M-308. The launchers, however, kill the M-308 if it touches them.)

Next comes two more of these walls, at the same time. Stay in the middle.
The barriers will form to the M-308's right and left. Hop up and kill the
left wall first because the Cage will promptly reverse itself, moving left.
If the M-308 jumps straight up in the middle, it will avoid the missiles
from both sides. After blowing the left barrier away, the M-308 should
run left to give itself some room for getting rid of the right wall.

When the Cage slides downward, the M-308 should flip up onto the ceiling
so it can see the green orbs coming up. It should also stay to the left so
it can hit the white ship that appears from the right. Now aim downward as
another white ship comes in from the left. The Cage will move down and to
the left, and then it will abruptly shift to moving down and to the right.
Jump, kneel, and flip to avoid the green orbs.

Now two white ships will appear, one from the top left, and one from the
bottom right. Take caution in shooting them as the Cage shifts left and
right through more green orbs. Quickly move to the Cage's sides because
even more orbs will cut through the middle. The M-308 should stay on the
floor if it is on the left side to avoid getting whacked when the Cage
shifts right again, moving toward the end.

Boss: Kridon and Zoniar (Security Drone and Laser Cannons)

Kridon is the red drone, and Zoniar is the pair of laser cannons.
Kridon just bounces around the inside of the Cage at 45 degree angles,
while Zoniar shoots vertical laser beams straight across the screen.

Take out the two halves of Zoniar first. When the battle starts, race past
underneath Kridon and shoot downward at the bottom half. The top half will
fire first, giving the M-308 time to destroy the bottom half as the top half
is moving toward the M-308. When the top half stops blasting, shoot upward
at it. The Plasma Beam can waste Zoniar really quickly.

With both Zoniar halves gone, Kridon should be relatively easy to beat.
Run around it, reversing gravity as necessary while hitting it. Kridon is
the main boss. If the M-308 kills it first, Zoniar will die along with it.
If the M-308 wants, it can even beat these bosses without firing a shot.
It just has to get Armor and then touch Kridon or the laser beams from
Zoniar. The M-308 loses the Armor, but the bosses will instantly blow up.

Expert Mode Hints:

In Expert Mode, the Cage runs through a completely different route,
and the enemy and item patterns are also changed. The gray orbs with
the revolving disc blades are placed so close together that their discs
almost overlap. Waves of flying bots also swarm the M-308.

The Galons' speed is insanely boosted, so having Armor during the fight is
strongly recommended. The shots they fire when they stop are faster, too.

Kridon will take a lot more damage before dying, and Zoniar will fire much
more frequently. Touching Kridon with Armor no longer kills it.

Expert Mode Walkthrough:

 Section 4-1 (Expert Mode)
 Expert - 500 seconds

The Cage starts by moving to the left. Several green orbs will appear, along
with a swarm of blue flying bots. These flying bots dart onto the screen,
squeeze off a shot, and then fly away. The M-308 should kill them or avoid
their shots, all the while dodging the green orbs. The Cage will soon move
diagonally up and left, through some more green orbs. There is a P Chip that
will appear at the top, just before the Cage moves diagonally down and left.
To grab the A Chip, the M-308 should stay in the lower right corner of the
Cage and kneel, so it can squeeze through the green orbs along the way.

Next, there are several gray orbs that are placed close together. Either kill
them or weave through them. The Cage eventually moves to the right, through
more gray orbs. When it goes diagonally down and right, there will be an
S Chip, several white ships that fire curving shots, and some green orbs.

The Cage will move diagonally up and right, and then it will go down, toward
three blue regenerating turrets. Two are at the lower right, and the third
one is at the top left. The Cage will shift a little to the right and then
pause, before going up. Afterward, it will leave the turrets and go right.

 Section 4-2 (Expert Mode)
 Expert - 200 seconds

The Cage moves right, with red bugs getting in the way. After the red bugs,
a series of four barriers (the walls with the missile launchers) will form
on the right. Destroy them all. There is a G Chip past the barriers.

At the part with the four white turrets, the Cage moves up. Four shield
turrets will be waiting for the M-308. The left one's exposed side is
its bottom, the right one's exposed side is its top, and the middle one's
exposed side is also its top. The fourth shield turret doesn't show up
until the Cage goes right. This one's exposed side is its bottom. When
the Cage moves up, expect more flying bots, green orbs, and red bugs.
Afterward, the Cage will go right, toward the end.

Story:

Cyberg's next line of defense is composed of energy traps. Lots of them.
Not only are there twin laser turrets nested throughout the place, a
lethal column of high-voltage energy will sweep through the entire corridor,
 vaporizing anything in its path.

General Hints:

The M-308 must keep advancing, pausing only to take out the laser turrets.
The energy column will kill the M-308 even if it has Armor, and it moves
fast enough to pass through the entire area before the Timer hits zero.

Walkthrough:

 Section 5-1
 Normal - 400 seconds
 Expert - 400 seconds

The M-308 won't see the energy column yet, but it is definitely coming.
To the right is a twin laser turret. When it stops firing, run underneath
it and shoot it. If the M-308 thinks the turret will fire again, it will
just have to move to the side and wait until the beams stop. Ahead are
two more turrets. For the lower turret, the M-308 can kneel down partly
over the adjacent ledge and shoot it without falling into it.

Up ahead is another turret at the bottom of a vertical section. After that
are the fifth and sixth turrets. Take out the lower one first. The other one
can be tricky. The M-308 must flip up onto the ceiling to reach it if the
M-308 doesn't have a special weapon. When the turret is about to fire, the
M-308 must flip back down and wait again. Try to use the Plasma Beam's width
to hit the turret (by aiming up from the bottom, letting the edges of the
shots damage it). After the M-308 wastes them, it should continue on until
it meets yet another laser turret at the bottom. Kill it, but take extra
 care during the next part.

Lightly hop up onto the orange block to the right and stay along the bottom,
because hidden ahead are two more turrets, with one aiming straight through
the middle of the screen. Jump up and shoot it when it isn't firing. The
M-308 should also take out the lower turret. There will be an A Chip on
the ceiling and a P Chip on the floor. Keep going right, where a single
turret will be in the middle. Destroy it, or run past it.

Now get on the ceiling. Another two turrets will soon appear, with one
shooting left through the middle of the screen and the other shooting
upward. When the path is clear, quickly grab the C Chip at the top right.
The Crusher should destroy these turrets. Drop back down onto the platform
and move right. One more turret will shoot to the left, above the M-308's
head. If the M-308 wants, it can take the S Chip before moving ahead.

 Section 5-2
 Normal - 200 seconds
 Expert - 200 seconds

There is a turret on the ceiling. Quickly kill it before the scary energy
column catches up. (This turret doesn't appear if the M-308 gets wasted
and restarts from the Checkpoint.) Head right to a second turret, which
is oriented vertically. If the M-308 has the Shield Force, it can jump
onto the side and keep kneeling to push the Shield Force into the turret,
destroying it. Afterward, the M-308 should grab the A Chip and the B Chip.

Now comes a tricky part. When the M-308 reaches the green floors, it should
take the middle corridor. There will be little blue bugs that fly from right
to left. If the M-308 kills one, the bug immediately releases a large wave
of energy toward the M-308. If the M-308 doesn't kill it, it launches the
energy wave before it leaves the screen anyway. However, letting the bugs
release their waves backward from the screen edge is safer because that
leaves more time to react to them. If the bug zips through the middle
of the corridor, its wave will cover the entire corridor. If the bug goes
through the floor, its wave will cover one-half of the corridors above
and below the floor. The M-308 can kneel under or above the bugs and their
waves, if the height at which they are launched allows so. If not, the
M-308 will have to jump into another corridor. Stay in the middle corridor
as much as possible, and jump to the other corridors only to avoid the waves
or to go around any walls.

At the end, the M-308 should see a trio of turrets. Get on the ceiling,
which is safer. If the M-308 has the Shield Force, it should move to the
far right and drop down onto the ledge above the highest turret, pushing
the Shield Force into it. Now the M-308 can drop onto the orange block left
of the middle turret and above the lowest turret. Again, push the Shield
Force into both gun emplacements to destroy them. If the M-308 doesn't have
this special weapon, it will have to take them out the hard way. (In this
case, kill the middle turret, the top turret, and then the bottom turret.)
The M-308 can safely kneel underneath the beams of the lowest turret.

After the three turrets, move onto the ceiling. If the M-308 doesn't, it
will get fried by a turret shooting at near ground level. Drop down to the
turret's right side and kill it. Again, the M-308 can duck its beams.

The last two laser turrets are to the right. They are tucked away inside
some super-reinforced structure. To grab the P Chip, stay upside-down on
the wall between the two turrets. When they stop firing, drop up, grab
the item, and then reverse gravity to fall back down. Be sure to lean
to the side while dropping to move away from the beams.

At the end, run through the narrow passageway when the nearby turret
stops firing. If the M-308 has trouble jumping in rightside-up, it can
reverse gravity and run along the ceiling.

Boss: Multatron (Triformer)

Welcome to Area R-75, where Multatron lurks. As its name implies, it
can transform into multiple forms, each with its own type of attack.

Multatron stays on the right, floating up and down while shooting toward
the left. Spikes above and below it keep the M-308 from sneaking beneath
its unprotected sides. That means our hero must use whatever space it has
to avoid the boss' shots. Multatron has three forms, and it will morph
into a different one as the M-308 pounds it. Touching Multatron with Armor
 will not affect it.

 Form 1: Blue
Multatron fires tiny diagonal laser bolts that reflect off the ceiling
and the floor. If a bolt is coming at the M-308, the M-308 should jump
over it, run underneath it, or run away from it, depending on where the
M-308 is in relation to the projectile. Of course, the M-308 should keep
firing at Multatron while it avoids the bolts.

 Form 2: Red
Multatron fires laser bolts that move in a rectilinear manner. They come
out horizontally at first, but when they are over the M-308, they will bend
straight down or straight up. The bolts alternate between going down and
going up, so the M-308 should keep this in mind as it attacks Multatron.
If the bolts bend away, just continue shooting. If the bolts head for the
M-308, it should run away to the sides.

 Form 3: Green
Multatron fires vertical waves of plasma. Jump or flip to avoid these waves.
Meanwhile, keep shooting back at Multatron.

After the third form, there is still more to the battle. Multatron is now
very angry, and it will constantly morph in between shots. This is probably
the toughest part of the fight, because the boss will also fire two shots
at a time. This means twin diagonal bolts, twin right-angle bolts, and twin
energy waves. If the M-308 can keep switching its tactics to keep up with
the boss', it will do fine and kick Multatron's colorful butt in no time.

There is also a risky but extremely fast way of killing Multatron that
requires the M-308 to have the Gravity Fireball. If the M-308 stands
under the nose of Multatron, sticking out partly over the spikes, it
can repeatedly flip to fry the boss. However, Multatron and its projectiles
will also stand a good chance of wasting the M-308.

Expert Mode Hints:

The energy column is twice as fast, reducing the amount of time the M-308
has to work through the corridors. Beware of the additional white turrets.

Multatron is faster, and so are its projectiles. The tactics for beating
 it remain the same, though.

Story:

Pushing warp technology to its limits, the Free Fall Corridor is far more
disorienting than the Tesseract Tunnel. Endlessly floating traps also patrol
the entire area, so the looping space is only one of many worries here.

General Hints:

Patiently and slowly move toward the right, watching for gun emplacements
on the floating platforms. For the huge traps that emit massive columns of
energy, reverse gravity to switch them on and off. The M-308 may have to
fall around them to proceed. Do the same for the spikes, flipping gravity
and looping around as necessary. The red platforms can block the M-308's
 shots, including the Plasma Beam.

In the Japanese version, this Stage also contains two energy beams that run
along the top and the bottom edges of the screen. The M-308 must time its
way across the platforms with extreme care, because it cannot simply fall
around the screen to avoid obstacles like it can in the English version.
The M-308 can survive touching these energy beams if it has Armor, and
more importantly, it can pass through them safely with the Gravity Fireball.

Walkthrough:

 Section 6-1
 Normal - 400 seconds
 Expert - 400 seconds

The M-308 starts off standing on one of the many blue platforms floating
upward. Go right to find two energy column traps. Reverse gravity to
shut them off. Continue on to an S Chip, a P Chip, and a third trap.
Soon afterward, a white turret will appear above a large blue platform.
Take it out by shooting it from underneath or from hanging below the
 small platform to its left.

Up ahead are orange and white platforms. Look out for another turret and
several red and white gun emplacements on the white platform. Beyond the
white platform are some flying robots. These guys pop out quickly from the
right, squeeze off a shot, and then retreat back to the right. Kill or avoid
them. Get past another energy column trap.

 Section 6-2
 Normal - 200 seconds
 Expert - 200 seconds

Get past yet another energy column trap. (This trap disappears if the M-308
gets wasted and restarts from the Checkpoint). The M-308 should go on to the
right until it sees some spikes. Look for an A Chip above one set of spikes.
It is within easy reach, so go pick it up. Past the A Chip is one more trap.
Flip upside-down and carefully move around it.

Soon the M-308 should see a white platform. This platform, compared to the
previous one, carries more white turrets. Up ahead is a vertical series of
blue platforms, which in turn lies in front of a longer blue platform. Look
out here. There are four red turrets and several flying bots. Two of the
turrets are on the bottom, and two are on the top.

To the right of the blue platform are some orange platforms. Flip to avoid
the spikes. When the M-308 is on the big orange platform, it should flip
upside-down and drop up past the spikes on the right side, landing on the
underside of the orange platform. From here, flip back rightside-up and
drop down onto the blue platform. Doing so shuts off the first of the next
two traps and lets the M-308 pass. Now jump above the spikes to the right
and flip again. The M-308 should drop upward onto the underside of the next
blue platform and shut off the last trap. When the path is clear, quickly
run to the right, falling off toward the many blue platforms on the other
side. Before the M-308 gets jabbed in the butt by the spikes, it should
flip and drop onto one of those blue platforms.

Boss: The Triad Voltars (Hanger Maintenance Modules)

The Triad Voltars have originally been created to perform various duties
around the hanger, but now they are building a fleet of warships. Having
no weapons of their own, these guys must use the lethal bands of energy
running along the floor and the ceiling to stop intruders.

The three Voltars circle the room in a counterclockwise pattern, and they
don't shoot or change their speed. Whatever the M-308 does, it cannot touch
the floor or the ceiling, or else it will get fried. The Voltars will attempt
to crush the M-308 or force it onto the energy bands.

When the battle starts, the M-308 is standing on the lower Voltar. When this
Voltar races up the right wall, jump to the left and onto the next Voltar
catching up from the bottom. The Voltars aren't spaced evenly apart, so
the M-308 must adjust its jumps accordingly each time.

Want to know when a Voltar is vulnerable? Look closely at the hatch located
underneath its top surface. In order to avoid overheating, the Voltar must
open this hatch after a certain amount of time to cool down. When the hatch
is open, the M-308 can blast it and damage the Voltar. The easiest way to
whack the Voltars is to shoot to the left during each jump, so the M-308
hits whatever Voltar is on the other side. (If it is damaged, it will flash.)
After the M-308 hits a Voltar for the third time or so, the Voltar will
turn red. That means it is only a single shot away from being destroyed.

Okay, so the M-308 starts blowing up the Voltars, but they are also its
safety platforms. What the hell is it supposed to do? Well, remember that
the M-308 becomes invulnerable as soon as it beats the bosses. The trick
is to time the attacks so the M-308 kills the last Voltar without touching
the energy bands. The Voltars' hatches, once they open, won't close until
the M-308 shoots them. This means the M-308 can wait for all three Voltars
to open their hatches when they are red, making them easier to destroy at
the end. Waste the first one by doing the usual jump-left-and-fire trick.
Then blow up the second Voltar (the one from which the M-308 has just leapt)
by shooting upward at it. Now the only Voltar remaining is the one on top
of which the M-308 is standing. The M-308 can simply aim down and blast
it. (If the M-308 has the Shield Force, implementing this tactic may be
problematic, due to some game mechanics that allow the Shield Force to
"accidentally" hit any Voltar the M-308 is touching.) When the M-308 wins,
the energy bands will shut off, and it will be on its way to the Core.

Here is a little trick the M-308 can use to stay alive if there is just
one Voltar left but it hasn't opened its hatch yet. Let's assume the M-308
begins by standing on top of the Voltar as it moves along the floor. When
the Voltar races up the wall, the M-308 should just run off to the side,
flip, and then land on the underside of the Voltar as it starts moving
across the ceiling. When the Voltar is going back down to the floor,
the M-308 should run off to the side again, this time flipping back onto
the Voltar's top side. By repeating this, the M-308 can use a single Voltar
 to avoid the energy bands.

Expert Mode Hints:

When the M-308 reverses gravity now, so does the entire Stage. The platforms
will float the opposite way, meaning that the M-308 should take greater care
when it is flipping around the energy column traps.

In Section 6-2, the platforms move only when the M-308 lands on them.
The M-308 can use this to its own advantage, hopping up to stop the
 platforms momentarily.

The Triad Voltars are pretty much the same, except now the number of hits
a Voltar takes before it turns red is vastly different for each Voltar.

Story:

All the bosses the M-308 has defeated in the past (except the Galons)
return in a final effort to stop it from destroying Cyberg.

General Hints:

The M-308 simply has to fight through all the previous bosses again before
it can reach the Self-Destruct Device.

Walkthrough:

 Section 7-1
 Normal - 100 seconds
 Expert - 100 seconds

At the end of the short hallway are a P Chip, an S Chip, and a G Chip.
The M-308 should pick its favorite weapon and then exit to the right
 to face the bosses.

 Sections 7-2 to 7-7

Using the same tactics from before, beat all the bosses again. The only
difference here is that Kridon in Section 7-5 will not be destroyed if
the M-308 touches it with Armor.

Boss: Self-Destruct Device

 Normal - 30 seconds
 Expert - 30 seconds

The Self-Destruct Device resembles a gigantic shaft. To destroy Cyberg,
plug it into the wall on the left. To do that, destroy the nodes, or the
clusters of writhing wires attached to the side of the Device. There are
four nodes, and every one the M-308 destroys will slide the Device closer
to the wall, bringing the next node onto the screen. The M-308 can jump up
and shoot them, but an even easier way is to go below them and just fire
upward. Touching the nodes is not good, although the Gravity Fireball can
be used against them. Touching the nodes with Armor will not affect them.

Expert Mode Hints:

There are no longer any special weapons available in Section 7-1.

The Self-Destruct Device has a new attack. As the M-308 destroys the nodes,
small guns on the Device that shoot tiny energy waves will be activated.
The waves travel only horizontally, but the M-308 must jump and flip around
them, surviving long enough to destroy the same four nodes. The M-308 cannot
blast the nodes from underneath or use the Gravity Fireball as it can in
Normal Mode, because the waves will emerge from above and below the nodes.

And the Earth was saved from
                a most serious crisis.
Yet Man does not stop sowing
                sorrow.

The history of the human race
has been that of battles, and

                harming the Mother Cosmos?

                Unless he mends his ways,
Man had better be all wiped

[3] Expert Mode
==============================================================================

To access Expert Mode, enter the Password that is displayed after finishing
the game in Normal Mode. Expert Mode is far more difficult than Normal Mode.

 - Enemies start doing things they normally don't, such as throwing out
additional or faster attacks, running in turbo mode, taking tons of hits
before dying, or appearing in more places than usual.

 - The Cage has a different route, and the new patterns of traps and enemies
 there can be very challenging.

 - Items may not appear in the same locations. They may be replaced by
something else, or they may not even show up at all.

 - Besides 1-Ups, some other items will not reappear if the M-308 gets wasted
 and restarts from a Checkpoint.

 - The Epilogue will include the Staff Credits and the image of the M-308.

See the Expert Mode Hints subsections for more information about each Stage
 in Expert Mode.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
[4.2] Boss Timer Trick
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Any boss (except the final one) automatically dies after 5 minutes
pass, although the M-308 will not earn any Stage/Clear Bonus Points
for "defeating" a boss in this manner.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
[4.3] Boss Strategies
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Name: Energizers
Attack: fire plasma beams
Weak Point: any part
Stage: 2
Notes:
There are five Energizers, and each one attacks independently. The M-308
should begin by shooting the Energizer in its corridor. When the Energizer's
protective shell retracts, the M-308 needs to jump to another floor before
the beam comes. Chances are the Energizer that has just fired won't shoot
again for some time, so the M-308 should reverse gravity and jump back down
to the corridor from where it has just come. Attack again, and this time the
Energizer should blow up. Now the M-308 has a safe spot in which to rest.
If the M-308 has the Plasma Beam, it should stand a little to the left
over where the red floor meets the yellow floor. From here, it can fire
upward or downward, letting the outer edges of its shots hit the remaining
Energizers as they open up and extend themselves into the shots.
If the M-308 has the Shield Force, it can kneel over an Energizer and
push the Shield Force into it.
In Expert Mode, multiple Energizers may fire at the same time, and
a destroyed Energizer will respawn after 2 minutes.

Name: Galons
Attack: touch the M-308, fire energy shots
Weak Point: any part
Stage: 4
Notes:
The Galons begin by racing clockwise around the Cage's surfaces. They will
speed up, slow down, fire a circular shot in the direction opposite to the
side where they are, and then start sliding again around the Cage, this
 time in the opposite direction.
Start off by attacking the Galon to the left. Jump over the Galon
approaching from the right. Now the M-308 should just keep firing left
and right as it lightly hops over the Galons running underneath it.
When they stop, shoot the closest Galon.
In Expert Mode, the Galons are extremely fast. The M-308 should obtain
 Armor before fighting them.

Name: Gorgoth
Attack: fires energy rings, fires homing rings (Expert Mode)
Weak Point: pinkish purple dome, when it appears
Stage: 1
Notes:
Avoiding the energy rings, shoot the dome as it emerges on the left, right,
and bottom sides of the reactor. Gorgoth's aim sucks, so the M-308 can
easily avoid most of its shots. The dome's first four appearances are on
the bottom, on the right, on the left, and on the left again.
In Expert Mode, Gorgoth fires additional homing energy rings.

Name: Gultzen
Attack: uses revolving disc blades, uses laser traps
Weak Point: any part, when it stops and locks itself onto the wall
Stage: 3
Notes:
Gultzen starts off above the M-308, so the M-308 should aim up and pound
it when the battle starts. Once Gultzen unlocks itself, it will move to
the quadrant of the screen where the M-308 is, so the M-308 must maneuver
past the laser bolts to get to another quadrant. When the boss locks itself
once more onto the wall, start shooting again.
If the M-308 has the Gravity Fireball or doesn't mind losing Armor,
it can also drop through Gultzen and land directly above (or underneath)
Gultzen on the ceiling (or floor). From there, Gultzen can't kill the M-308
because it will remain in the same spot (due to the M-308 not being in a
different quadrant), and its blades will fly past the M-308 harmlessly.
In Expert Mode, Gultzen moves faster. The M-308 should predict when the
boss is going to unlock so it can run ahead first. Take care not to have
the boss cut across the screen diagonally, or else avoiding it will be
extremely difficult. The blind spot trick still works.

Name: Kridon and Zoniar
Attack: touches the M-308 (Kridon), fires laser beams (Zoniar)
Weak Point: any part
Stage: 4
Notes:
Kridon just bounces around at 45 degree angles, so run and jump around as
necessary to dodge it. The two Zoniar parts will alternately fire vertical
laser beams through the entire Cage. Take out the Zoniar halves first.
After Zoniar is gone, Kridon will be much easier to beat.
For a quick victory in Normal Mode, get Armor and then touch Kridon or
the beams from Zoniar. The M-308 will lose the Armor, but it will defeat
the bosses immediately. This trick does not work on the final Stage
(where the M-308 must fight these bosses again).
In Expert Mode, Kridon and Zoniar are faster and much tougher to kill.
The Armor trick is also not as effective, because it will only result in
the destruction of the top half of Zoniar.

Name: Multatron
Attack: fires lots of laser beams
Weak Point: any part, when it is not transforming
Stage: 5
Notes:
Multatron's attacks are determined by the form it takes.
In the blue form, it shoots diagonal laser bolts. They reflect off the
 ceiling and the floor.
In the red form, it shoots horizontal laser bolts that bend up or down
at right angles when they are over the M-308. The bolts alternate between
bending down and bending up. If the bolt bends toward the M-308, the M-308
 should run away.
In the green form, Multatron shoots wide vertical waves. Jump or reverse
 gravity to avoid them.
When Multatron is about to go BOOM!, it will constantly morph between
its three forms, and it will also fire two shots at a time.
If the M-308 has the Gravity Fireball, it can stand underneath Multatron's
nose, sticking partly out over the spikes, and then flip repeatedly to hit
the boss. This method is very risky, but with good timing and luck it may
 result in a fast victory.
In Expert Mode, Multatron and its projectiles are faster.

Name: Self-Destruct Device
Attack: none (Normal Mode), fires energy waves (Expert Mode)
Weak Point: writhing wire nodes
Stage: 7
Notes:
Shoot the four nodes. Each one the M-308 destroys will slide the Device
closer to the terminal and bring the next node onto the screen.
In Expert Mode, the Device has small guns along its top and bottom sides
that will start shooting small waves whenever a node is destroyed. The shots
travel horizontally, so the M-308 must jump and flip to avoid them.

Name: Triad Voltars
Attack: force the M-308 onto the floor and ceiling energy bands
Weak Point: any part, when their hatches open
Stage: 6
Notes:
The Voltars will circle the room in a counterclockwise direction. Don't
touch the energy bands on the floor and the ceiling. The M-308 begins on
the lower Voltar. When the Voltar races up the right wall, jump to the
left and onto the next Voltar catching up from the bottom.
When the hatch beneath a Voltar's top surface is open, the M-308 can damage
the Voltar. As the M-308 jumps, it should shoot to the left, hitting the
 Voltar on the other side.
The M-308 must time its attacks so it kills the last Voltar before touching
the energy bands. A red Voltar indicates that it is one hit away from being
destroyed, so the M-308 will want all three Voltars to be red and to have
their hatches open before killing them. That way, it can quickly finish
them off and avoid getting pinned onto the energy bands. When the M-308
is standing on the last Voltar, it can simply kneel down and shoot.
Having the Shield Force here is probably not such a good idea. Due to some
game mechanics, the Shield Force can "accidentally" hit any Voltar the M-308
is touching, possibly destroying it and causing the M-308 to fall.
In Expert Mode, each Voltar sucks up a different number of hits before
 turning red.

Name: Zoniar

 0054 00 to 09 Timer - Ones Digit
 0055 00 to 09 Timer - Tens Digit
 0056 00 to 09 Timer - 100s Digit

 0528 00 or 30 Armor - Graphics Only
For the M-308 to have the Armor graphics, set this value to 30 (HEX).
The M-308 will still go BOOM! if it touches something nasty, unless it
 actually has Armor.

 05D0 00 or 80 Armor - Actual
For permanent invulnerability, freeze this value at 80 (HEX). Now the M-308
will be able to survive even the crushing blows of the swinging gates in the
second Stage. However, glitches will occur if the M-308 touches other things
that normally kill it with a single hit despite having any Armor. The Voltars
may push the M-308 off the screen, and touching the energy column in the
fifth Stage may warp the M-308 to another location. Sometimes the M-308
will restart Section 5-1, or sometimes it will skip to Section 5-2, upon
which touching the beam again will mysteriously bump it forward to the boss.

[4.5] Game Genie Codes
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Using the Game Genie with Metal Storm creates a strange effect where you will
find a weird Password if you enter the Password Screen after you turn on the
game. This happens as long as the device is connected to the console, even
if you don't enter a single Game Genie code. (This Password starts the M-308
off at the first Stage in Normal Mode, with no Power-Ups and 0 Lives. It is
FY6-72RH-Z7J or F!6-72RH-Z7J, depending on the version of the game.)

 * This code will invalidate any Passwords earned because the M-308
is not supposed to have more than one special weapon at a time.

[5.2] Really Small Details With Which the M-308 Wipes Its Butt
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Targeting Issues
If Earth is the only planet in the solar system that has any chances of
sending something that can stop the Giga Laser, why doesn't the Giga Laser
destroy Earth first? Why does it waste precious time blowing up Neptune
before aiming for us? Oh yeah, you can just blame the stupid malfunction.

Weird Cage
Have you ever noticed how the Cage itself changes in appearance across the
different Sections? First it has ancient, classical architecture, and then
later it looks like something taken from a more fitting futuristic world.
Are these variations of the Cage there for some important reason? Have the
designers simply been bored and wanted to show off their artistic skills?
Is this extra artwork left over from another game?

Handy Password Memory
The game may record its hero's progress only with Passwords, but that still
doesn't mean it can't try to be more Player-friendly in that regard. If
you press Reset, the game retains the most recent Password, if any has been
earned or entered. Just go to the Password Screen, and it will be there.

Funny Main Menu Options
If you hold A and B together as the Title Screen appears, the Main Menu
will not show up. When you release the Buttons, the Main Menu appears, but
"PASSWORD" will be highlighted first. If you highlight "START," pressing
A and B together will automatically move the cursor back to "PASSWORD."
Is this wacky information extremely awesome, absolutely useless, or what?
